activesync options and glitches

I bought a new desktop computer a couple months ago, with new OS (Windows XP) and it was also rebuilt a week ago due to problems I don't think have anything to do with this inquiry. When I went to Sync for the first time after the rebuild, I wanted to replace the desktop items (files, contacts, calendar mainly) with those on the Axim since the Axim was more up-to-date. It was necessary to set up a partnership. I was surprised that during the partnership set-up I was given 3 options concerning 'when there's a conflict': do I want the desktop items to replace the Axim items, do I want them both saved or do I not want to sync those items. I thought there used to be the option of replacing the desktop with the Axim items. This is the option I wanted since the Axim was more up-to-date. I clicked save them both because I saw no other acceptable option and now, of course, I have duplicates of many items, but not all. My questions:

1. When people use both desktop and Axim and you know you may have made a change to both and you want to save both, do you select the option to have both saved during syncing and then go in manually later to combine both into one item?

2. Before my rebuild (and maybe before the new computer--not sure) I would sync and there would be unresolved items. Then I was given the option on each of the unresolved items to select how to resolve them. Do I select the option in the set-up to not sync those items that are in conflict in order to return to this way of syncing?

3. Is there an option in the partnership setup that I'm not seeing: to replace the desktop items with the Axim items when there's a conflict?

4. Now when I sync, everything goes ok until the syncing gets to the Files and shows about 50 unresolved items, then it may stop for a few seconds and then it syncs the Files again and again and again. It won't stop until I click stop. Any idea why this is happening?
