Two Question from Potential Axim Purchaser
Can anybody tell me whether the Axim ships with a copy of Outlook that I can load onto my PC? I don't use MS Office and don't want the cost of having to buy it.

Secondly, to voice record, does the button need to be pressed continuously or just the once?

Many thanks for any help!

You get a copy of Outlook 2000.

Depending on the program you use, yes or no.

Thanks, James. Dell (UK) have just told me that Outlook comes pre-loaded onto the Axim and is not able to be loaded onto my PC. Maybe they got it wrong - I hope so!

Regarding the voice recording, do you which programs have the one-touch option?

Well there really isn't a true "pocket outlook" application on the Axim. I can't talk to the UK version, but the US version comes with a copy of Outlook 2000.

VITO SoundExplorer is a great choice.

Whoever you spoke to at Dell is very very wrong and they don't know what they are talking about.

Outlook 2000 comes with the Dell and is NOT preloaded on the Axim because it is a Windows program for your desktop PC and is included on the CD which ships with the Axim. Outlook 2000 will not run on the Axim, period.

Like you, I don't use any MS products (except Windows XP) and in order to sync the PIM data on the Axim with my PC, I have no choice but to load Outlook 2000 on the PC (again, like you, don't want to buy any program just to sync the PIM data).

Hope this clarify matters.

Also depending on why you currently use as your PIM, you can buy this program and continue to use that.

Intellisync

Thanks, guys, that's really helpful. If the Axim is as good as this site I may well buy one!

In terms of PIM's I've got Lotus Organiser 5 - will the Axim sync with that? I also have a Sony version of the Palm PIM - I guess it would be too much for it so sync with that!

Intellisync will sync to both Lotus Organizer and Palm Desktop from the Axim.

Well...I guess that just about clinches the deal! A Dell (UK) salesperson was offering to throw in a cradle with the 300mhz version when I called them earlier today - sounds very tempting to me.

Thanks again for the help, I really appreciate it.
