In lots of the paintball forums I frequent they list their tweeked markers for the masses to covit. So I thought it would be cool to have a forum for people to list what they've done to their Axim to perfect it. Mine is as follows... Or will become next week when everything arrives. After which I will download the software I've been drooling over. Sorry if I gloat, I've been using a Handspring Visor with 2mb since they came out. I'm allowed to right?

Axim X5 400Mhz
Pocketop Keyboard
Sandisk Cruzer w/ 256Mb SD card
Lexar Media 64 MB CF card Left overs from the digital camera.
Lextionary dictionary/thesaurus
Argentum RTS
Age of Empires Gold

I also use the Resco Picture viewer that came with the device. I'm sure I'll be adding more soon. I'm actually ok with the cheap case that came with the Axim... for now

Lets hear it from the rest of you.

Axim X5 400MHz
128MB SanDisk SD card
256MB PQI CF card
Rhinoskin RhinoPak 2000 SportCase
Homemade screen protectors (template available in the forums)

I'm not going to list all the software and eBooks I've crammed onto this thing, it'd take too long! :D

*Axim 400mhz
*256mb SanDisk card with Cruzer usb device
*Adobe Acrobat Reader
*Pocket Toolman
*Pocket Divx
*RegKing
*TaskPlus
*CalendarPlus
*Dell DPad Fix
*MightySync - HIGHLY RECOMMENDED - lets you sync files to and from anywhere including the Built-in Storage area as well as any SD or CF storage. It's only 5.95. I just think that Activesync should already have this functionality.
*Switcher Bar
*Dell Leather Case
*WriteShields
*Several ebooks, pdfs, word docs - Dirty little secret about syncing Word docs - You don't have to convert them to Pocket Word format. I've turned this off in Activesync and my docs look more like they were intended.
*Several games
*Wisbar (still debating this one - not sure but Axim seems more stable minus it and its not due to running out of memory)
*Microsoft Remote Display (debating value of this as well)

Finally, under consideration:
*D-Link Wireless card - After rebate, best buy has it for $39.99! My understanding is that unlike other Wireless cards, it doesn't block the headphone jack. For those interested, see the following:
http://www.bestbuy.com/Detail.asp?m=488&ca...cat=&e=11177336
*Boxwave Minisync cable - Allows syncing and charging. It's $24.95, about 5" long retracted, 35" long extended and weighs less than an ounce. Here's the link: http://www.boxwave.com/products/minisync/

I think a cool new thread might be to see what others are considering as well.

Thanks everyone for such a helpful and friendly site!

Case

http://www.marware.com/SportSuit-III.html

I am using the Sport suit III slip case with a belt clip most of the time. I ocassionally use the Dell provided case when I dont need or want the belt clip.
I have a small Samsonite Digital camera Bag that I use to store and carry all of my extra's (keyboad, ear phones, batterie's, memory cards, AC adaptor, and sync cable) it was 4.50 at Walmart in the digital camera section. Perfect for traveling.

I use the Write shields to protect my screen. I tried the ones from Dell but these are MUCH better!

As you can see I have not payed for a ton of software. I spent most of my money on the hardware. I felt that this was more important to me than buying soft ware to replace what was either on my Axim or was available for free.

I didn't buy alot of software. I had alot of it for my previous PPC and the developers were nice enough to allow me to switch versions.

Raynne.
It’s good to know that the software developers will allow you to switch versions.
I did not mean to imply that everyone on this thread had spent allot of money on software. I was referring to some of the programs that I have seen, and tried like gigabar, several battery monitor apps and so on that are a combination of programs or features that are currently available for free.

I feel faint reading these posts... I just have the following:
Axim 400Mhz unit
128MB Sandisk SD card
256MB Sandisk CF card

The biggest thing I've been doing is converting all my CD's to mp3Pro format (using MusicMatch jukebox) and making AVI's of all the Firefly episodes I've downloaded from Kazaa, and playing them with PocketMVP.

Got my Axim 300 on Christmas. Have been very happy with it. My additions:

Acrobat Reader - not too happy with this but will keep it if I find a book that needs it.

MS Reader - Never read much until I found I can press one button and have the latest page of a novel I am reading displayed on the Axim. Great feature.

Palm Reader - This works very well, not quite as good as MS Reader though.

WisBar - have had no problems with this yet.

Facelift - tried this but it seemed to mess up at times - went to Battery Pack.

Resco File Manager - Fantastic product after you learn how to use it.

BatteryPack2003 - Lets me have 3 lines of icons on the today screen.

Write Shields - They are great.

Pocket Informant - Was impressed with this but it seems more complex than I need and would require more time getting it to work correctly than I want to invest for my needs. Staying with Outlook - this handles contacts reasonable well.

Sim City - Have not done much with it yet.

Snails game - Nice graphics.

Vital Snake - Ok game.

Ms Pacman - nice little game for the Axim.

Age of Empires - Again, I have not done much with this. I ahve to figure out how to work it.

Rayman Ultimate trial - Empressed with this and will probably purchase it at a later date.

Done in 50 Seconds - Nice little game.

Delorme XMap for handheld - This sucks - deleted it.

MS Pocket Streets - this works very well on the Axim and was happy until I tried the Mapopolis.

Mapopolis maps - Great program, very fast scrolling and zooming. Will allow you to select name from contact list and have it located on the map (Streets will also do this). I paid $24.95 to allow me to download as many maps as I wish for a year. I quess they cover the entire country with each county in a state a separate map.

Calendar+ Free - use this to show several days appointments on Today screen.

Most of these can be found on Handango or Pocket Gear (my favorite) or enter the name in google. This usually displays the home page

FUTURE PLANS:

Want to get setup to display photos on the Axim.

How is the car charger with the Axim? I'm thinking of purchasing the $14.00 Wal-Mart version.
