Worried Memory differences?? CFI/CFII/SD

Aloha to all ...hope someone could clear this up for me...

I've ordered an AXIM 400 and it will be arriving in like a week.
It seems that there are no cards bieng shipped with the PDA. So i was thinking of getting a memory card .
WHICH ONE SHOULD I GET??
Compact flash I, Compact flash II or Secure digital.

Is there any advantage in buying the SD over CF since its much more expensive.

Also, i'm planning in the near future on getting a Canon digital camera, so getting compatible memory cards would be good.

Tjanks for any info...

CompactFlash l and ll: both will fit your Axim, and are known to be cheaper and have larger capacities than SD/MMC. Will also fit your Canon camera.

Secure Digital/MMC: a little more expensive than compact flash, but if you shop around, you'll find that it's not too much. I haven't seen the same LARGE capacities (512mb+) as readily available as compact flash. Also, perhaps somebody can clarify this, but the read/write speeds with SD appear to be slower than CF, but not to the point of being a major issue.

The main plus of using a SD/MMC card is that you'll keep your CF slot free for other uses: wireless card, gps, camera, modem, etc.

I also have a Canon digicam, which uses CF, and I was trying to standardize my storage cards...but for the reason listed above, I decided to use a SD card for the Axim, and leave my CF for the camera (doubles as a 2nd for the Axim if I ever need more data storage). The other issue is if you are going to share a card between the camera and Axim...it would become a pain to have to delete/re-install each time you wanted to free up space for either device.

FYI, there are SD to CF adapter cards on the market, so you could use a SD in your Canon if you decided to get only 1 card.

And if you check the threads here at Aximsite, and my personal experience as well - stay clear from the SanDisk SD cards - they could cause loads of frustration with the Axim.

A 6-in-1 card reader comes in handy. This device accepts SD and CF memory cards (both at the same time, if you want). You plug it into your USB port, and it creates two new disk drives. Now you can swap files between cards and/or your PC. Much faster than Active Synch.

BTW - CF II is thicker than CF I. That's the only difference. If your device accepts CF II (the Ax does), there is no reason other than price to select one over the other.

Well, the CF has i/o capabilites on the Axim (the SD doesn't unfortunately) so if you plan to use a WiFi card, then you might want to have an SD. What I have done is for cameras I use CF, so I have a couple CFs I can use If I want to bring music, or some other kind of media file that doesn't need to be in the axim indefinitely. I have an SD though where I install my programs, and I generally leave that in, and switch out CF for either cards or WiFi.

CF is cheaper, but if you only plan to get one, I'd get the SD to keep CF open for IO. If you want multiple, I'd do what I did above, I don't think I'll need more than 300 megs or so permanently on my Axim (with the SD), and more on demand (CF)
