CompactFlash l and ll: both will fit your Axim, and are known to be cheaper and have larger capacities than SD/MMC. Will also fit your Canon camera.
Secure Digital/MMC: a little more expensive than compact flash, but if you shop around, you'll find that it's not too much. I haven't seen the same LARGE capacities (512mb+) as readily available as compact flash. Also, perhaps somebody can clarify this, but the read/write speeds with SD appear to be slower than CF, but not to the point of being a major issue.
The main plus of using a SD/MMC card is that you'll keep your CF slot free for other uses: wireless card, gps, camera, modem, etc.
I also have a Canon digicam, which uses CF, and I was trying to standardize my storage cards...but for the reason listed above, I decided to use a SD card for the Axim, and leave my CF for the camera (doubles as a 2nd for the Axim if I ever need more data storage). The other issue is if you are going to share a card between the camera and Axim...it would become a pain to have to delete/re-install each time you wanted to free up space for either device.
FYI, there are SD to CF adapter cards on the market, so you could use a SD in your Canon if you decided to get only 1 card.
And if you check the threads here at Aximsite, and my personal experience as well - stay clear from the SanDisk SD cards - they could cause loads of frustration with the Axim.
