I bumped mine to 90mw for about six months now. Works great!

io333,

Has the change seemed to increase the AP's range?
Also, maybe you could help me out a bit with it. When I tried I received an authorization error. How do I specify the username and password in the snmpset command?

Thanks!

1. I don't understand your last question. Just grab the Amtel software (i have no idea where it is)and log in as Administrator with the username and password you gave the AP.

2. It increased range significantly, like double at least.

3. I'm running at 90% instead of 100% to not overheat the poor thing, and not up noise too much. But after six months I have no issues. I don't remember how I figured out how to set it at 90% instead of 100. Lots of Googling gave me the answer.

I have a Netgear MR814 wireless AP/router. Has anyone tried this with APs other than what the directions are for with any success? Seems to make sense to me but I don't want to go through all this if the directions are model-specific.

Thank you.

Just google around to see if your Netgear is a WAP11 clone. If it is, the software will work.

Just an FYI on this....

On my NetGear ME102 I cranked it up to 100mw and noticed a slight improvement. Mainly it seemed to help getting the signal thru a few trees around my home. I'm guessing I got about an extra 100 ft. I ran NetStumbler to watch the signal strength and it didn't seem to jump that much, but I'm not sure if using NetStumbler is a good way to check. Also, there's an option in the manager to turn off the SSID broadcasting, which I was told by NetGear could not be done.
