Exclamation NEW Axim IR (infrared) Driver Update!!

I just found this a minute ago and thought I'd share it with you guys. It's a new driver posted on the Dell site that "improves performance of the infrared transfer function when tranferring data between an Axim X5 and a Palm OS device. "

And you know what? It works! I just transferred a file from my boyfriend's Palm m500 to my Axim whereas I could not even get them to recognize each other before.

Here's a link to the Dell download page:
http://support.dell.com/FileLib/Form...leaseID=R59395

Now the Axim is able to communicate to laptops, other Axims, other PPCs, AND Palms! I've tried them all, and they work.

:D

Hmm, does anyone have problems sending contact info from the Axim to a Palm device?

The Palm keeps saying it that the file wasn't accepted even though the Palm accepted a Task and a Notepad file.

I have installed it but not tested it yet.

I removed Peacemaker and reinstalled the driver. So far I can send... we will see, hopefully it will work for good now!

Don't have a Palm to test it with, but was kinda hoping it might SLIGHTLY improve the IR Range on the Axim.....but no such luck.....still just 4-5 feet. I'm sure it's a hardware issue, but I've never seen an actual IR emitter with such short range. It just kinda had me hoping for something when I saw the driver update.

Yes, I do not think the built in IR on the Axim will get much better than 5 feet. I think the range is more of a hardware limitation.

However, I would have tried it too, just to be sure. :)

I can only send one at a time from my wife's m515 to my Axim. On the rare occasions before the IR update that IR did work, it was only one at a time.

If I remember correctly, the e740 and 5455 would only do one at a time also. Perhaps a user of a handheld other than the Axim could post and enlighten me as to if one contact at a time is normal.

I can finally send and receive to a Ipaq. I had tried it when my friend had gotten his Ipaq but I could not send or receive.

Now if I only had the patience to wait on large files.

FYI, my Ax never had any problem communicating with a Ipaq. Both sending and receiving files via IR were OK, and oh yes, it is slow and only suitable for small files.

I noticed the same thing with appointments. I now have the Axim open to calendar and I can receive appointments from our PalmOS devices. I just tried with contacts and my Axim received one from the Today screen without having contacts open...

Were you able to receive a contact with contacts open on the Axim?
