I just started having a problem with my transcriber - for example, if I write Hello, it just transcribed that to: "Ite/Sl". I know my handwriting isn't that bad! It seems to work off and on though, as I wrote Hello 10 seconds ago and it came through perfectly. I've done a few soft resets that didn't work. Once I get things backed up, I'll try a hard reset. But this is very odd. It started either when I enabled cleartype or wrote in 4+4...because the 4+4 is when I first noticed it.

Something to try. If you are using a screen protector, try removing it, wiping it off and reinstalling it. I have found dust under it makes the transcriber mis-read.

Also, if your protector shifts around on the screen and goes either too far up or too far down under the little rim around the protector, it causes some problems.

HTH,

Hrm - I did reseat it yesterday, so that could also be it. *giving it a shot*

Nope - "Hello" still gives me "'Fed o" or "ISe%" or "Tlel/ o"

Hard reset fixed - oh well, had been wanting to do that anyway. When I got my Axim, I started installing stuff like mad on it. Now I'm going to try to be neat...

When you have transcriber active, there should be an up/down arrow icon on the command bar, and one of the items on that pop-up is the "Character type" selector on the left. I think the choices are script, block, and numerical. If this is OK, try re-aligning the screen. Also, the black arrow on the transcriber properties bar should match your writing style (angle across the screen).

Forgot all about this - yes, that little arrow can cause some major mis-translations if it's in the wrong direction.

Ahhh...I bet that was it. Switching that arrow causes similar misreads. Oh well, like I said, I wanted to do a hard reset anyway, but this is very good knowledge if this happens again.
