axim x5 wont sync
please help!! my x5 wont sync at all. it just stopped. i have done a hard reset and uninstalled activ sync and reinstalled 3.7. i have disabled the firewall and i have tried differnt usb ports. when i put it in the cradle it dings to connect but immediately dings to disconnect. when i ask the pda to connect, a window comes up saying 'you must establish a partnership with a pc before you can synchronise information'. but it doesn't direct me to make a partnership at any point. where am i going wrong? when i first had the thing i set up a partnership when i installed activ sync but this time it didn't offer me the chance to do so. any help greatfully appreciated.

Hey nutbag,
If you have any memory cards in your X5 take them out and try it. Also try downloading activesync 3.8 from the MS website (free) so you have the latest version.
If it works without a memory card then you will need to format your memory card and it should work.
Also when you uninstall activesync make sure you reboot before you install it again.
Hope somehting there helps.
Good luck, keep us informed.
Cheers

Nutbag, What worked for me was to start all over again, I reformatted the c drive / installed laptop drivers ( for my sins I have a Dell C400] THEN INSTALLED ACTIVE SYNC from the cd,set up partnerships then the axim 5 all worked ok , then I reinstalled the rest of the stuff[ office/firewalls/ antivirus/etc]onto to laptop + ghost and took image of woking system - cant say what caused the symptoms but next time I am going to try just restoring the ghost image from pen drive
Good luck

Ok I am sure you don't want to format the hard disk (but I am sure it would work).
Try deleting everything the C:\program files\microsoft activesync\ folder after you delete activesync. Try re-installing again totally fresh.
Plug it in when in safemode and see what happens (not sure if this is possible though)... Maybe if you can get the partnership established it will work.
It could be something is lingering in your registry. It is possible that a good registry cleaner will find and delete the old entry's for you. Or find and clean it yourself... However either way be very careful and backup your registry because this can kill your windows install if it/you delete the wrong thing.
Good luck - I'll keep checking back to see how you are going.

Possibly something in the Registry still...
Maybe you should re-install MS-Outlook as well.
If it doesn't sync with your friends PC then there is either something wrong with the axim or the sync cable.
I don't supose you can try syncing with your PC via IR or wireless?

I have had sync issues in the past. I don't have the cradle. My issues were around the sync cable. Don't know if this will work for you or not. I plug in my power cable first with my X5 off. Then I plug in my sync cable. My problems went a way after that. Not sure why, but when I do that, it syncs every time.

This sounds drastic, but the same thing happened to me. What I ended up doing was a uninstall of Active Sync 3.7, a reinstall of Active Sync 3.6 and a cold reset of my Axim (i tried using the last SD card backup, but of course it didn't work). I did have a fairly recent backup on Active Sync, so the reintallation of all my applications wasn't too much of a hassle.

I seem to be in the same boat as you nutbag. I have tried all of the above mentioned steps. A new computer, a new sync cord, different versions of activesync, no cf cards, still nothing. I don't have an ir port so I can't try that. I am going to try and re install my wm2003 img that i got from a friend, but I don't remember the button sequence to reset to Rom, does anybody know how? I just don't rememer it was so long ago. But don't feel like you are the only one. I too am having so many problems. I don't know how to go into the registry either. If you have suggestions I am open thanks so much nutbag and forum

Hi everyone!
This is my first post, from Madrid, Spain. I own an Axim X5 Advance.
I once had sync problems (not exactly as your probles) with MS ActiveSync, and after millions of forum searches through the internet got to something that might help you too....
Check if you have installed on Outlook 2002 (or whatever Outlook you're using), a utility called Outlook backup, whick backups the Outlook.pst file on my documents folder.
After deleting this sort of plugin, or add-on, everything just went as it always had before!!!
Hope it helps,
tariro

Nutbag,
The reason its not letting you set up a partnership is because it's finding one! I don't think that's your problem. Most people fail to realize that activesync is syncing (or trying to ) with Outlook. I Think you need to check your settings in OUTLOOK. Try This:
Open Outlook on the pc
Open the inbox
click tools tab
click preferences
click email options
put a check mark in each box BUT the top one
on replies....do not include
on forwarding....include
NO CHECK IN BOTTOM BOX
---------------------------
click mail setup tab
click email accounts
check the view or change box
this brings up another page showing the email accounts that you have set up....it should not be blank
highlight your account and click change
look very closely...this is where most errors occur...look at every word, every period
all 6 boxes need to be filled in
leave secure authentification unchecked
now click on "test account settings"
did it pass? if so...problem solved
if not, cick the "errors" tab and tell me what it says
there are several other settings but lets stop here and see if it now works...if not, we'll look further
remember to let me know!

these might be quite simplistic; but these suggestions might help you troubleshoot the problem you're having with AS and establishing partnership with your PC and PPC even after reintalling the AS software on your computer.
1. be sure to remove any or all partnership previously established.
2. unplug (then wait for about a minute) and plug in back the usb connector of the Axim cradle to your computer.
3. soft reset your X5 and try to begin syncing (or establishing partnership) once again.
