activesync problem

When I first got my Axim X5 I read about a lot of activesync problems. Well, now I have one and can't find a thread that relates to it.

I was on vacation for a couple of weeks but I brought my cradle to my home just to keep my Axim charged. (I use a mac at home so don't sync it there.) When I came back to work suddenly the computer can't find the device. I've unplugged and plugged, I've soft reset. I don't want to hard reset since I, of course, added in several items while away.

If anyone's going to recommend de-installing and re--installing software, etc remember - you're dealing with a computer idiot here. LOTS of step by step instructions would be lovely. Not only lovely, needed.
