Mad After A03 upgrade no Activesync

I did the Ao2 OK, I just did the A03 and it went fine.

I had to restore from a Compact Flash card and that went OK (restoring from Activesync won't work as it says the backup is from another device, great program that Activestink).

Activestink connects, starts to look at my Axim then stops and says synchronization error.

Resets don't work, Rebootting the computer does'nt work.

I then did a hard reset, restored again from the CF.

Still it won't synch.

Any help would be appreciated.

scmidlap ,

I have another post on here regarding my experiences with restoring and syncing. Search for "Problems with syncing after restore --HELP!!" something like that.

Anyway, here is the abridged version:

1)I wanted to see if my restore worked, so I backed up a file to my SD card. I did the restore and all my data and programs were there....tried to sync afterwards...unable to connect.

2)Did a hard reset...tried to sync...it worked..restored from my SD card...tried to sync...unable to connect.

3)Said screw it, doing a hard reset and installing the A02 upgrade. Followed the instructions and made back up using my cradle. Installed A02 without error...did a hard reset...was able to sync.

4)Restored my file from my PC using my cradle...some files were unable to be restored (files in the messenger folder)..but all others restored...tried to sync...unable to connect.

5) 4:00 AM...really angry...copied my backup files to the "Built-in Storage" directory on my Axim...did a restore...ABLE TO SYNC now...so far, "knock on wood" I am still able to connect and sync.

Well, hope this gives you some incite or help...I really hope you get your problem solved...I can empathize with your frustration.

Although I don't have a suggestion on how to fix your problem, I had the similar problem a couple weeks ago.
I used Data Backup from the AX then hard reset as instructed by a Dell tech.

I thought I was going to have to reinstall Active Sync

I had a full Active Sync back up from the previous day. Fortunately I'm running XP Pro and did system restore from earlier that day.

The only restore complaints I've seen were restoring from OTHER than Active Sync.

Mine did not explain error. It started to look for changes and flashed sync error and quit.

Still can't activestink

Gentlemen your comments are most appreciated.

My woes continue.

I have never been able to get Activestink to restore either my Axim or my Ipaq. It always gives me the error that the backup file is from another device and won't fire.

Would anyone comment on the following drastic remedies please:

1. Re installing ActiveStink
2. Deleting the partenership, and starting a new one. Would this result in data loss?
3. Throwing the thing against the computer and saying to it as it arcs beautifully through the air that I have great respect for you?.

I look forward to your learned comments.

Can you tell I'm Canadian?

Activestink still won't connect

could you elaborate on your comment below. This might work for me. Which files are you refering to and specifically what did you do?

5) 4:00 AM...really angry...copied my backup files to the "Built-in Storage" directory on my Axim...did a restore...ABLE TO SYNC now...so far, "knock on wood" I am still able to connect and sync.

scmidlap,

When I made my backup files (two of them "all data" and the "PIM files"), I backed them up to my SD Card originally...since i could not get active sync to work when restoring from my SD Card or from active sync, i thought that, maybe, something was not restoring properly from the SD card. So I copied both back up files from my SD card to the Built-in Storage folder on the Axim...then I used the restore program to restore the files from the Built-in Storage folder.

That's just something that worked for me. I knew it was not a hardware problem with my PC, cradle or USB port because when I did a hard reset and erased everything from memory, I was able to sync with a "clean" Axim. When I restored my backup files from my SD card...I was unable to sync or connect to active sync.

My assumption is or may be wrong with why I had troubles with active syn...it just worked for me when I did the above.

Backuping up via copied files

Thanks, I'll give that a try.

I had the same problem. I did a (data backup) onto my compact flash. Then upgrade from A02->A03. Did a restore afterwards.

Activesync tries to connect but gives 'no connnection' afterwards.
Doing soft reset or delete existing partnership did not help.

Doing hard-reset and restore from built-in storage makes no difference (same error).

I ended up doing a hard-reset and re-instore all software that I need. :(

This happens to me last time too when going from A00->A02.
