Restore error
I can't figure this one out. First of all, I've done a hard reset so I'm starting with a clean Ax. All I'm doing at this point is creating the partnership and syncing with my laptop. Everything works as it should. My email, contacts, etc, come over just fine. After the sync, I do a full system backup. Then I immediately perform a restore. It gets to 99% and fails. I go to my inbox on the Ax and there are three other services named IPM.Root, Outbox, and Sent Items. I've gone thru this a few times starting with a hard reset and it happens each time. Now if I do a backup and restore before syncing with the laptap, everything works great. So it's once I sync, do a backup, and then the restore where I'm having the problem. This seemed to start after the A03 upgrade, but I could be wrong. I didn't try restoring prior to the upgrade so it could've been an existing problem.
Any ideas?
Thanks

If I'm reading your message correctly, you are doing the following:
1) hard reset
2) sync (with transfer of all your informations)
3) backup
4) restore
If so, why are you doing the backup before the restore and it is the same file you are using for each?
When I do a hard reset, I do the following:
1) hard reset
2) restore (from sd)
3) sync
It's now back to original configuration.

Yes you're reading my post right. I'm trying to figure out what's causing the problem. It all started when I upgraded to A03. When it finished my restore just hung at 82%. I let it sit over night and it never finished. So I did a hard reset, reinstalled all my apps, setup email, etc. and did a backup. Using that backup file I do a restore, and it fails. But if I never sync and do the backup restore test it works.

Ah, now I understand. Next question, are you doing the backup/restore from ActiveSync or from the backup program on the Ax? It won't answer the 'why,' but have you tried the opposite program?

Yep. I've tried from my SD and CF cards as well as the built-in and ActiveSync, the problem exits on them all. I've unistalled and re-installed ActiveSync, but the problem still exists. I'm thinking maybe something is wrong with Outlook on my laptop maybe? I don't know, this is really baffling me. Is the some repair utility that I can run on Outlook?

Maybe you can just delete the Outlook user files on the laptop (actually, renaming them would be a better choice). I forget what the file name(s) are but it shouldn't be hard to figure out. Once Outlook is 'clean' you can set ActiveSync to use info from the Axim to recover the data.

Well I think I figured it out. Instead of doing a full backup and restore I did the PIM databases only. I still had the same problem though. So I delete my Outlook inbox, sent, and trash folders on the laptop. Did a hard reset, sync'ed to the laptop, did a back up and then restore and it worked. So I'm guessing I had a corrupt email. Have you backed up previously with emails in your inbox and restored? Just asking cuz could it be possible that the backup/restore has a bug if the inbox contains any emails? Just taking a shot in the dark. Anyway, it seems to be fixed. Thanks

Actually, I don't sync my emails. I'm not really sure why people do. I occasionally download emails directly to my Axim when I'm not home but they are left on the server so when I get home, any that I want get downloaded to my PC. I suppose I could save having to delete a few emails that get downloaded both places after I've already read them on the Axim but it's not that big a deal and seems to solve a lot of the ActiveSync problems. I also don't sync files since they also seem to cause problems - I just copy them from the PC to the Ax when I need them.
