I'm a Dummy

After thinking about how lucky I was for not having to do a hard reset on my ax since I've had it (over 2 years), I find myself looking at doing just that.

I was in the market to try out some of the different programs to manage my today screen, calendars and downloaded/installed them. Well I wasn't paying much attention to what I was doing and loaded them into the program memory and filled it up.

Now when I start it up, if I can get passed the password screen without it locking up, I get a program memory low warning to pop up. I try to choose the convert storage memory to program memory so I can delete the programs I don't like out of the program memory and it locks up.

So now I sit pondering any possible solutions prior to a hard reset and I'm coming up with blanks. Activesync cannot connect to try deleting the programs out from there.

Does any have any solutions?

You have been ver fortunate for two years. I hope that you have a backup prior to installing the program so you can restore it. If not well you only solution is to hard reset and reinstall everything to the proper location and avoid further hard reset. Bonne Chance!

Is it fair to assume you've tried a soft reset? If you've done that, you might try an aborted hard reset.

Did you make a backup before all the new software? If so, a hard reset will allow you to restore from the backup.

I have tried the soft reset and tried to do a backup. I didn't have enough room on my cf card at the time and I did't get a chance to clear enough room for it. I shouldn't loose too much data. I have most of my stuff on my main pc. It was a good run without a hard reset. To load all the default programs back on to my ax, I should be able to use the disk that came form dell correct (PPC 2003 Companion CD)?

Doing a backup at this stage will do you no good as you will be backing up all your memory problems. If you could somehow get to Start - Settings - Remove Program, I would try uninstalling as much as possible, then trying another soft reset. If this is not possible, do a hard reset, and IF you have an old backup, try restoring from that to salvage as much as you can. You will not need to reload your default programs since they are untouched by a hard reset.

I don't see why you can't remove some programs thru activesync. Just go to Explore and remove some stuff and you should be fine w/o a hard reset.

I tried to go through activesync, but it will not connect up because the main memory is filed and locks up the axim.

By pulling the main battery then the backup, that should sufice for a hard reset or is there a better way?

After about a million soft resest, I finally got in through activesync. I had unchecked all the progams that I had checked to sync up with the desktop. Then I had to figure out how far I could try to proceede on my ax before it locked up. The trick was not to do anything withthe ax. I just had to let activesync run its course then remove the programs like stevenator65 said. Thanks for all of your help but mostly support. You guys rock! :approve:
