I am preparing to purchase a wi-fi CF card for my axim. My house has all linksys equipment and the network works very well. I have been able to find d-link cf cards for much cheaper than linksys. Does anyone have an opinion on the D-LINK cards? My friend has the linksys and it works great. Thanks!

I have a Linksys WCF12, and it too works great.
Some people have had a lot of problems getting them working, tho... I'd say if you can get the D-Link siginificant cheaper, go for it.

I would agree go with the D-Link card, I had a Linksys WCF12 card and had nothing but problems with it.. and I was connecting to a Linksys router. If you search these forums for the WCF12 you can find the threads, lots of people having problems with it. If you can, post your results with the D-Link card.

Hmm problems with Linksys you say, I was thinkin of buying one. I tried a Netgear and had no problems, worked great for wardrivin (btw if ya have a Linksys wireless router it is a good idea to change the default password). D-links I have found to be a little costlier than the Linksys cards but I'd rather pay more for a card that works well. I would really like to hear some comments on the D-link cards before I decide.

Does the upcoming 802.11g breed figure into this? I think it's supposed to have a wider range, which may be important for mobility.

I'm considering the D-link for two reasons:
1. If you look around there are several posts about positive results with it.
2. The price is right! http://www.bestbuy.com/Detail.asp?m=488&ca...=566&e=11177336
It's 39.99 with a $40 rebate at best buy. You can't beat that.
I don't even have a wireless network yet but its almost too good to pass up. Of course, I could wait to see what happens when the 802.11g cards come out. They'll be much faster (though I don't know the upper limits of the Axim's ability to handle it) and the 802.11b cards will fall in price dramatically.

That's poor :(
I suppose that also applies to their Canadian affliates. Oh well there is no rebate on D-Links here anyway gottta pay the full price of $149 (CDN).

I had a Linksys WCF11 that worked great (with a Netgear WiFi router) but was a little too large and blocked the headphone jack. I just spent some big bucks ($139) on an itsy bitsy Socket Low Power WLAN CF card. This thing is the smallest CF Wifi card I've seen. It looks and performs great and when installed even fits in the Dell leather case . I will take some pictures comparing my Linksysy card and my Socket and post them later along with my impressions of each.

I have a D-link, works great on both my home network and at work. As far as the rebates not being excepted from certain stores, I believe it has to due with those stores offering their own rebates, or maybe handling the rebates for D-link. I purchased from Office Depot and my rebate was mailed to Office Depot rebate #XXXX. Look to see if the store has it's own rebate form, if so don't send to D-link.

Iceman:
Have you verified this D-Link or Best Buy or had a problem with a Best Buy rebate? I think that aximalator might be correct about Best Buy handling its own rebate. I'll see what I can find out...

Please post those shots! I'd love to see this. I've been looking at the D-Link primarily but I have been thinking a lot about the form factor issue. Buy one of these things and then it doesn't fit in any case. The Socket sounds like just the thing!

I have been using the Netgear WiFI CF Card ever since I got my Axim and I have had no trouble with it whatsoever. I do highly recommend this card to anyone who's looking at D-link or Link Sys. Consider this first.
