screen problem returns with restored data.

My X5 screen stopped operating correctly about two weeks ago. Tapping in the top part of the screen activates icons in the bottom half of the screen. It behaves as if the bottom half of the digitizer has been mapped vertically across the entire screen.

This makes it impossible to access anything in the top half of the screen. I was able to back up the X5 on my laptop, and I also copied all the files I could find to the laptop. I then did a reset. Nothing changed. So I did a hard reset. Then I was able to access the full screen, and screen alignment worked as expected. But when I restored the backup to the X5 the screen problem re-appeared.

Since the problem is not present after a hard-reset I believe the hardware to be operating correctly.

What could be in the backed up files that would corrupt the operation of the screen?

To solve this problem I would like to selectively restore parts of the backup file. Is there a tool thats permits this?

If I have to re-configure from scratch I need to retrieve my contacts and calendar from the backup file. Are there any tool for extracting files or databases from a backup file?

Thanks for any assistance.

What I would recomend is one of those programs that let you remote control the axim. Then control it with your computer... Use active sync to send in sprite backup... I know that one lets you restore say just contacts or jsut mail... better than restoring everything right?

Did you ever install something like um... Nydiot or any other screen adjusting utilities? Perhaps it changed the mapping but somehow forgot about your screen O_O very weird.

Thanks awdark,

You provided just what I needed. I was unaware of the "remote control" programs. I downloaded a trial version of Aurorisoft's dotpocket and installed it on the X5. Seemed to work fine. I then restored my backup. The screen again failed to work, but using dotpocket I was able to navigate and control the X5 from my laptop. I was able to get into the screen alignment panel and after running the alignment everything is working again!! :-)

Don't know what caused it, but now we know one way to fix it.

Many thanks.
