"New" Menu
I have an Axim X5 Advanced It has a lot of 3rd party soft ware, althougth everything but Pocket informant and Targus drivers installed on 1 gig SD card.
Here is my problem, I recently purchased a wireless IR keyboard from Targus and installed the drivers that came with, was using for about an hour flawlessly and now the "new" button won't work, you know that one in the bottom left corner. Others work in that area file, etc app depending. I did a soft reset as pressing the new menu totally froze the ax. I uninstalled the targus dirvers and reinstalled the newest from web side v1.33 i believe. same issue, so I decided that I would tell Win 2003 to just not display and turn the button off. IT WON'T GO AWAY button remains in bottom left when pressed it changes color as normal but then the AX freezes, currently have drivers installed but not turned on . Axim is two years old running win 2003 from factory on a 400m chip. Did a hard reset to try to cure, no avail. I have done the Mylar wire inbox button fix posted here and worked flawlessly until last night for no apparent reason. Any Ideas?!

First of all, there is no way (other than skinning) to remove the New button. You can only remove the up-arrow that sits next to it in the application tray.
After the hard reset and before you restore your backup, does the New button behave properly? I suspect that something is corrupt in the registry but first... Go to Start>> Settings>>Menus>>New Menu. Try unchecking the items one-by-one and attempt to tap the New button after each. This may help locate the problem. Are there any entries that may be related to the Targus keyboard? Also I think that PocketInformant can "take-over" some menus/items. Are there any settings in PI that you can change to disable it from using your New menu?

Here is what I have done, I reinstalled pocket informant and now the new button works periodically. Still working on figuring it out.
It did work after hard reset, but not after I reinstalled back-up.

The entries on the New menu are set in the registry. If one becomes corrupt it can cause lockups like you describe. To check for these you will need to navigate to \HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shell\Extensions\NewMenu and inspect the subkeys. Each subkey (menu entry) should contain two values:
