display not bright enough

the display is not very bright when compared to LCD screens on electronics used in boats and airplanes. screen brightness is set to max under 'settings'. anyone know how to crank up the gain?

Exclamation Can't believe

someone thinks the screen is too Dim!

When I use the Axim it is always turned way down, I can't imagine using it at full brightness!

Maybe you should find someone local and see if their screen is different than yours. Could be its defective, I think the screen is great!

I think that it is great indoors. Outdoors, even in the shade on a bright day, it is a bit dim.

Almost all my use is indoors, but I agree that outdoors it could be a lot brighter.

You'll never get enough brightness for outdoor use. The Ax screen is a compromise.

Most equipment designed for outdoor use has a reflective screen. It works really great outside or in a bright room. But if there's less light available, it's impossible to read. Most equipment designed for indoor use (like laptops) uses a backlit screen. They work really well inside, but if used outside, the sunlight washes them out so they are impossible to see.

The Ax uses a "transflective" display. It has a backlight for indoor use. It can reflect light for use outdoors. Actually, the screen is very readable if you angle it to catch a lot of sun. It's a huge improvement over early color PDAs, which were totally useless outdoors. But ultimately, it's a compromise.

you should see the backlight on my old pda. Even the lowest setting on my Ax (first notch) is brighter than my old one on its full setting.

On th whole, I agree with what was said about reading the screen under bright outdoor sunshine. Just tilt it a little either way should see an marked improvement.
