The Reason why Sandisk SD cards don't work inside...
For those of you that have been having problems with Sandisk SD cards constant corruption and need to be reformated. I have been working on this problem for a while now and I just recently found this site, by the way, its great to have an Axim community to work with now. It is likely the speed at which the data writes from the Axim to the card. Correct me if I'm wrong, but Sandisk and others like Lexar SD cards write to slow. I have been researching this more with people on Dells forum site and have found the solution. Simpletech SD cards. Everyone I have spoken with about the SD card issue suggests Simpletech SD cards. They have all had no trouble when using that card because it writes much faster, which is where the error is believed to lie. Here is a link to the site with several authorized dealers. There is also currently a $25 mail in rebate as well. So here is the site if you want a card guranteed to work for your Axim. I only offer it because I hate to see so many people struggle, and no I don't profit from this site.

Except that I've had no trouble with my Lexar cards... You might be on to something, but why aren't we seeing the same problem with the Lexar cards?

I have heard of some users that have trouble with their Lexar cards. So far the one I know works for sure is SimpleTech.

Where have you heard this? I can find no discussion on this site from anyone who has had any trouble with Lexar include me. I have 20 Lexar 256 SD cards in 20 different Axims and have never had any trouble.

unless some cards are different, all Sandisk cards should have problems. Mine does not have any trouble (SD 256). If anything, the ax writes too slow, or there are temp file problems specific to each user.

No problem with Lexar here. Maybe there are problems with Lexar and other devices? Has anyone *ever* reported a problem with a LexarSD and an Axim? I've never seen it.

Lexar has worked great for me. I had a SanDisk and did have similar problems as some of those listed in this forum, too.

I do not have any trouble with the SanDisk 256 MB SD card either. I keep mine inserted at all times. Could it be that problems actually come up when removing/inserting the cards repeatedly?

I've had problems with all my Sandisk SD cards (havent tried my cruzer yet, prob gonna resell it), viking sd & 1 gig CF. All involve moving large video files & mp3's with 6-1 reader & then with Axim. No problems with Simpletech 512, 1 gig CF cards & lexar 256 sd card.

Nah I have users who wouldn't even know how to remove a SD card from their Axims who had trouble. I wish I new why it did it because SanDisk is much cheaper than any other company, but after what I went through, I can't buy another SD card from them. Whats funny is that I have a 4 CF cards from them and have no problems...

This probably is not the reason, but I have only had problems twice with my Sandisk SD 256. Both times was within minutes of taking the card out to show off its small size.
Outside of those 2 incidents, I have never had another problem.

I have a SanDisk 256 SD card, have had it since December. No problems, no issues. I've had it in and out, but it stays mostly in. I have moved large files, small files, lots of files, no problems. I think the problems people are reporting with SanDisk are a quality problem in manufacture, not a systemic design fault. Either you get a good one or you don't.

I had 10+ axims with 10 SanDisk SD 256 cards--all corrupted after moving large files. I bought a SanDisk USB-SD unit for the PC to test the cards and possibly load them with data and then make them R/O as a last resort.
After formatting the cards in the USB unit several days ago, the cards now appear to work correctly. I've pushed multiple gigs of small and large files through two cards via the USB writer, Axim CF-SD, Net and ActiveSync. The other cards get less use, but also now work as they should. The cards are not removed once loaded. Not the lab results I was looking for, but whatever works at this point.
