Lost everything! Help please!

OK I'm an idiot. I lost the ability to sync my X5, then after hours of trying different USB ports, different cables, etc etc, through a very long series of bad decisions, I removed my main battery (backup battery dead) and now have an expensive paperweight. Can the OS be reinstalled? How do I install ANYTHING if I don't have a connection? Sorry for the dumb questions, I've made a big mess here and would really appreciate any help you can give.

Thanks,

The OS shouldn't need to be reinstalled. Put the battery back in and charge it up, the OS should boot once there is enough charge.

As for installing applications and restoring files, that will be difficult without a connection to the pc via Activesync. Make sure that the Regional Settings are restored to the proper settings and cradle your Axim, if you still can't get a connection, make sure that all the cables are connected and that there is no damage to the pins in the connection socket.

You don't say what version of AS you are using, but you could try upgrading to a new version from Microsoft.

Thanks for the quick response. The power light is green, but nothing happens when I try to boot it up. I'm completely stumped. Any more suggestions?

Is the screen on dim? Try pressing and holding the power button for a few seconds. If the device doesn't work, quick press of the power button to see if it's turned off.

If that doesn't work: have you tried a resetting the device?

Soft reset first (push the point of the stylus into the reset button at the back)

Hard reset if that doesn't work (Power button and stylus in the reset hole at the same time)

I would go for the soft and hard reset.

I'd advise the simple options first. Remember, a hard reset clears the memory; anything not in the ROM or the BIS is lost on a hard reset.
Allways try the obvious first.

Big Smile

It's fixed! Found a post by quovadis7 with a link to how to run system diagnostic tool. Ran it, booted up, synced up, life is good. Thanks Steve B and all who posted!
