Wi fi trouble

I recently had to hard boot my Axim x5. Before the melt down, I bought a lan cf card, loaded the driver and was connected to the Net. After the hard boot, I reloaded the wi-fi driver and attempted to get online. No luck. I have tried, I think, everything. I must be missing something. I thought it would be automatic, but something is not Ok. Any suggestions? Thanks.

I assume you meant a WiFi CF card. Did you install the correct driver for the OS on your PPC? See if the WiFi Guide linked fro, my signature is any help or post more details (does the PPC see your network? Does it get a valid IP?)

Thanks for your info at WiFi guide. The router is working because I have another computer that seems to be working good. I get to page "wmo3-9" in the guide and I do not have a page that gives me Network key, only "Authentication", so from here I am lost. I don't know how to see if the PPC sees the network or where to look for the proper Ip address. Anything else I should be doing? Thanks.

It depends on what WiFi card you have but there are many freeware utilities that will help you connect (WiFiFoFum, Hitchhiker, etc.) that might help you connect and vxUtil will show if you have an IP.

BTW, having a router work with a laptop is no indication that it will work with the PPC. If you have security enabled but you don't have the key entered in the Axim, you will not connect. Also, you need to make sure the router is operating in mixed mode (B+G) unless you have a Linksys G CF card (AFAIK, it's the only one on the market that would allow PPC to connect to the router in G mode).

My router is not working in B+G mode. That must be it. I'll have to get just another router. Thamks for your help. It was great.

Wait! I was just assuming you have a G router. All home G routers I've seen have the option to operate in mixed mode. Unless you have a corporate quality router, if you don't have that option it's probably because your router is 802.11b and it should work fine with the PPC.

I'm going to ask a stupid question ..... do you have WEP enabled on the router and not have the key entered on your PPC?

What kind of router are you using? With my X5, I had to put my router into B only mode for it to work.

It should be in your wireless settings page in your router. However, if it worked before, then you hard resetted the Axim, there has to be a setting amiss in the axim.
