X5 will not recognize external power.

All of a sudden my 2 year old x5 does not know when it is on external power. It can not charge batteries or operate on external power when the battery is removed. Has anyone had this problem and if so what does it take to get fixed. (Please don't tell me it's time for a new pda, I love my x5.)

My best guess would be two things.1.your power source is bad.2.where the power source connects to your Axim(bent or broken pins)is the problem. You may need a volt meter to check your power source. You need to check from the wall socket out.You can inspect your pins to see if the problem is there.Let us know what you find.

X5 will not recognize external power clarification

Sorry, I should have covered this; My power source is the adapter cord that comes with the x5 and plugs from the wall socket into either the cradle or the x5 itself. When the cord is plugged into the cradle batteries charge in the cradle slot but the battery will not charge if it is connected to the x5. Either when the x5 is in the cradle or if the power cord is plugged directly into the x5, if the battery is on the x5 it will not charge. Also when I plug the cord into the x5 directly the x5 does not respond to this power source at all. I am beginning to believe that the problem is in the x5 where it connects to the power cord.

My X50v has had the same, gradually worsening glitchyness of the power connector, tonight it will not charge at all, it is at 2% power and I am so frustrated that I want to throw it in the face of Dell's CEO and watch him bleed! What the #$%@ is their problem designing such a lame connector? Make it sturdy! Argh!!!!!!!!! What do we do?

Actually, it's two different connection approaches. The X5 has a direct plug for external power, the X50 series uses the bottom port. Two entirely different designs. If you are under warranty, call Dell for a replacement. If not, you may be able to open the case and see if a connection is broken or intermittent and repair it (carefully) with a soldering iron.

Yeah, it is completely FUBAR, (see Saving Ryan :)). I am about to demand a new unit (not refurb), will report back when I have it.

I had this happen just this morning! I left it plugged in over night and it NEVER CHARGED! Turned out that my charger wasn't plugged into the outlet. :-) My problem sounds a lot easier then yours.

X5 will not recognize external power

Does anyone have a diagram on how to open the x5 and what I can expect to find when I open it?

Yes, the orange light comes when a battery is placed in the cradle and the dell light comes on when the x5 is placed in the cradle but a battery attached to the x5 willl not charge.
