anyone ever upgrade OS to ppc 2003 youself?
I got a new x5 with a04 ppc2002 and want to upgrade to ppc2003. Some of my friend gave me the upgrade file, however, I found two ways to upgrade OS, the one is using CF card, copy the upgrade file to CF card and press some buttons, so system can be upgraded. another is running R63465.EXE on computer and adjust UUID code in the upgrade file, R63465.EXE will upgrade system.
Both sides said they have upgraded successfully, however some of my friends remind me if fail in upgrading, my PDA will be useless unless send it to U.S. for repairing that made me worried.
So, is there anyone upgrade his system youself? Please give me some advice, and which way is safer.

I upgraded it myself using the cradle...
yep the problem is that if your PC freezes and the process of upgrade is not completed you are in trouble...
So you need to find a stable enough home PC and do it...
Good thing is first to back-up your existing 2002windows and see how it goes...then if everything works fine go for the upgrade.
It takes about 20mins to upgrade the system.

thank you alfaman!
you upgraded by the second way, did you ever adjust the upgrade file? because they said you must write you UUID into the file. or just run r63465.exe to upgrade?

I upgraded my Amin X5 to PPC-2003 from a Ebay Download and every thing seems to work except the Socket Low Power Wlan card
I have downloaded the 2003 drivers from Socket and installed them the card will flash when pluged in but will not get a IP address
Everything worked before the upgrade

Either way is equally safe as long as you follow the instructions correctly, using the card method it is possible (however unlikely) to flash the wrong firmware in. I usually use the card method as it is a little faster and have reflashed my Axim at least a dozen times without any problems even when using modified ROM files.
Honestly after you have done it once you will wonder what all the fuss was about, it is a straight forward procedure that is simple to do.

you load the file onto a CF card, hold some buttons, and then wait for 15-20 mins, & your done. i started the process & let it finish while i drove to work.

I did my X5 and my wife's X5 using the CF card method. No problems. Although, it's tricky getting your fingers to press the right buttons and release the proper 2 afterwards. It may take a couple of attempts.
Here's the site where I got all my information:
