Somehow my Axim screen got cracked. Will Dell replace this or will I be wasting my time calling them? THere is also a white spot in the left top corner. Should I just tell them about that? I dont want to buy a new one.

They will not replace a cracked screen unless it was shipped that way. People have had them replaced for pixels not working. They may give you a difficult time about that as well.

If it doesn't look like the LCD is cracked (no black ink spots anywhere), then it is probably just the digitizer, which you can buy another one for about 55 dollars at www.gethightech.com I have to warn you though, replacing it will void your warranty, but it looks like you already have.

There are black spots which mean its cracked. So am I pretty much out of a PDA.

www.gethightech.com will buy your broken Axim for 40 I think...or you could sell it on Ebay, along with any accs. you have. Good luck!

Here area few tips.

If you have a 400MHz, buy a refurbished 300MHz unit here from Computer Geeks for $140.

Sell the battery for about $30 on ebay and the power charger for about $15 bringing it to $95.00. Maybe even sell the Dell original USB cable for $10.

Hopefully someone would want the guts to the 300 MHz model for experimenting. daximx5 is right, GetHighTech may even want it. They say $45.00 for an Axim and I am sure they mean broken screen like yours... broken screens mean good mainboards.

You may even get a new screen/digitizer for about $50.00 if the stars line up right. I'd call GetHighTech 1st and see if the want the mainboard, case, button assy and chassis for $45.00. That would be the biggest cost return hurdle. I can see everything else selling pretty quick.

If you truly need one, buy an old Palm V series or III series....you can get used ones for cheap on Ebay...I've seen them as low as 20-30 bucks.

P.S. I know what it's like...I'm in middle school and my HandSpring Visor Prism decided to break one day last October..I was out of a PDA for almost 3 months....I had to use my Palm V...

I emailed Dell support and they replied asking for my name and address and service tag. They said that they would arrange for the appropriate warranty service. I did tell them that it was cracked. :crooked:

My Axim screen was cracked due to my cousin playing pocket nester (Mike Tyson's Punch Out) from using the D-pad. I called dell explained how it was cracked and they said they'd replace it under the warranty. I now have a refurbished Axim with a great screen.

Will the refurbed one be just as good as a new Axim. Will it have a new processor or one of the real old ones like B2 or whatever?

My refurb is the 255 processor. I guess it's just a crap shoot at what you get. I got really lucky.

I called Dell lastnight and they arent replacing my Axim. I was going to buy a new one but should I just wait and see what new ones they are coming out with? Does anyone know when new Axims might come out?
