Exclamation cannot access sd card from desktop

From thew newbie,...

I have had my Axim 400 now for two weeks and love it! Thanks to your forums I also avoided buying the Dell "Sandisk" SD card and just got a Lexar 256 meg card instead. I have seen in the tutorial index that I can copy media files directly to the SD card from my desktop, but alas nothing shows up when I click on "mobil device" from either my computer or windows explorer! (I have loaded the ROM3 update, also have Activsync 3.7, and can copy/paste files from the Axim file explorer to the SD card. Also those files function perfectly from the SD card.) I run my system (home) with Win2K on a Athlon XP 1.8, so there shouldn't be any issues there. I have tried in vain with Dell to get an answer on this and they tell me that it is not possible to access the SD card directly from my desktop. Am I missiing something here??? I also should add that I set up the standard "synchro" partnership on Activsync and not the "guest" option. Oh yeah, the card is NOT locked.

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for any help you good folks can offer.

In ActiveSync on the PC, click on Explore, it should give you a window like this. Double click on My Pocket PC.

sd card access from desktop

Thanks for the replies so quick, however,...

When I choose "explorer" from within activsync I get an error message that says on the titlebar "Failed to start remote services"
and in the body the text reads "critical communications services have failed to start. Try resetting the mobile device and connect again."
Now what exactly is happening is a mystery to me, Dell says that I should not be getting this message and says try re-installing Activsync again which I have done twice.

Your turn,...

Does ActiveSync appear to work OK otherwise - that is, do the items you have checked get synced when you connect?

Does ActiveSync (on the PC and Axim) show them as connected?

Do you have a firewall on the PC? These can cause unusual connection errors.

YEEEEEEEEEEEHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!

Hooray for the heads-up on the firewall. It magically has fixed my problem. You would think that I would have figured this thing out on my own, I am so embarrassed.

Never gave a second thought to my ZoneAlarm causing me grief, go figure. Thanks so much for the help, hopefully I can share this with others as you have with me someday.

Have a great Mothers Day weekend All!!!!!!
