touch screen problems

I'm having some weird problems with my axim x5. The touch screen will be working fine, then suddenly it will not work right. If I touch it does nothing, or it will not work yet if I touch it the key board feature will come on and off.. After a few soft resets or maybe I turn it off and on a few times it starts working correctly.

Any ideas?

If you are using a screen protector see if your screen works without it.You may also want to realign your screen.Run a business card between the edge of the screen and the case to make sure no dirt etc. has accumulated.Hope this helps.

I have what appears to be the same problem. The condition is erratic. I've had my X5 for over a year and the problem just started this week. I havent installed any new programs lately and do not have a screen protector. I hope someone can come up with a remedy.

I do not have a touch screen protector on my axim x5. I tried the business card between the edge of the screen and the case to removed any dirt or dust.

Also, I have tried multiple hard resets and the problems still contiues.

already have tried that dozens of times. After I hard reset and align the problem will start in a matter of minutes.

X5 Touchscreen Fix

stewdiny & wlh46,

Sounds to me like your touchscreen problems are both probably the ones quite common to the X5....

Fixing them will require you to open up the case of the X5 to do some cleaning of dust/debris around the inside edges of the screen and/or a VERY easy repair to one of the ribbon cables that connects the X5 motherboard to the screen (the "black tape fix").

To disassemble your X5, follow the directions at the following link:

http://www.gethightech.com/Merchant2...axim_takeapart

To implement the "black tape fix", follow the directions given by Post #6 (by Markins) in the following link:

http://www.aximsite.com/boards/showthread.php?t=44661

By performing one/both of these fixes, I've been able to repair FOUR X5s with touchscreen problems that I bought for cheap off of eBay - all of which have performed flawlessly ever since!

Good luck & let us know how things turn out! :approve:

good news!!! that worked!

though that repair caused another problem. The back up battery(which I removed during the repair) was at 100%, now it at 0% right after the repair.

Yeah, that is a problem. I am assuming that you lost all your data since the backup batt died. :(

this is a great fix - I just got an X5 that my wife dropped (<30 days after I gave it to her) back up and running. Many thanks!

Mike

P.S. I'm going to glue it to her hand from now on.

buy another battery they are less than $2.00 clean your battery contacts and make sure they are bent enough to make good connection to battery make sure there are no fingerprints on battery and do a soft reset then check level

The fix worked!

Quovadis7 and others:

I'm so glad I found this thread! I've had my 5 for a couple of years now with only minor problems. Then came this screen deal. Taps would work intermittenly. Buttons were good but the screen really puzzled me. Thought I was going to send off for a new $100 screen.....Then I read your suggestion and the looked at the links.

Opened up the back and being "vewy, vewy, careful" gently cleaned the contact area as decribed in your post...That did it! Works like a champ! :approve:

Thanks folks...Thanks Aximsite!

Glad to here that fix is keeping people in business. What a crappy design! I'm really glad my X5 is still running - and all because of a little chunk of electrical tape. You know, I bet it was because of playing NES games on it - I had the AB buttons right there...

I had/have the same problem. I don't want to take my x5 apart right now, but here's what I use as a temporary fix.

Start with the stylus on the keyboard button. Draw a very tight zig zag pattern all the way up to the start button. With this pattern, you'll touch nearly 90% of the screen. Raise the stylus when you get to the start button. Should work fine for a while after that. At least, it does for me.
