SanDisk CF card 256 mb question

Hi! I just bought a SanDisk CF card 256 mb. Why is it that when i checked my memory, it only registered 244mb as free space? By the way, i reformatted the CF card already using Flash Format and it registered again 244mb as free space. Thanks! Please reply ASAP so that i can return the CF card immediately in case this is a defect. Thanks again!

It's no defect. Sandisk 256 MB cards only have 244 MB open to the user. I don't know exaclty why it works that way, but that is how it is.

It's like that with all memory cards. It's a matter of mathematics.
