Hmm Alarm will not go off until i turn the axim on.

This is not the way my ipaq used to work:

now with my axim - i set my alarm (or a scheduled appointment for that matter) and then hit the power key and pop the thing in my pocket. when the time for the alarm to go off occurs - nothing happens. but when i turn on the axim later - then the alarm will either immediately go off - or the next time i go to the clock control panel it goes off.

this is just no acceptable... my ipaq used to be my alarm clock - and i definitely cant use this as a scheduler if it wont go off unless the axim is on.

help!

I think the alarm does go off and you can't hear it when the axim is in your pocket. Then when you turn it on it will pop up the alarm message asking if you want to dismiss it. (since you didn't the first time it will remember and ask you when you turn it on)

As a test, try setting the alarm and keep the axim in front of you to watch it as the alarm goes off.

The stock sounds you have to choose from for the alarms are bad. I can't hear any of them. I'm going to try recording my own custom sounds and see if I can get something louder as an alarm.

Must be a setting somewhere, because mine works the way you want. I even recall being pleased that its alarm would go off even when the unit was switched off. So it does it on mine.

Do the experiment as LFNNS has suggested. It could also be that the sound was turned down too low. IMO, an alarm's sound should not be controlled by the main volume setting, but that appears to be the case with the Axim.

I use my axim as my alarm clock as well,
but the built in alarm software was not what
I wanted, I use AlarME .. i think its great!
in fact its the only ppc software I actually
spent money on.. I also downloaded a few
wav's for my alarms... rather then the stock ones..

A Tip: If you want to wake up to your favorite
MP3', try starting a MP3 in an MP3 player
(NOT windows media player) ...
after your alarm is set, the MP3 is rurnning,
turn off your PPC, .. when the alarm turns your unit
one the mp3 will continue playing....(not the
case I have noticed, with windows media player)

Sleep alarm issues

well,

I am aware of the volume settings and so forth. I have updated to the A03 ROM.

i just set the alarm for 11:21am at 11:19am. then i turned off the power.

it is now 11:23am and i am going to turn the unit back on (the alarm has not gone off)

turning it on....

nothing happened - the clock read 11:24 - no alarm.

I go to the clock settings panel and then at the next change of a minute (11:25) the alarm goes off....

argh - this isn't just me not knowing how to use the thing - I used to use my ipaq like this all de time.

i guess no one else is having similar problems with A03....

this is a bit of a deal breaker...

sigh

How is it a deal breaker?

Everyone elses is fine, call
dell and get a replacment, most
likely you just got a bum unit

did it work before the a03 upgrade?

Are you sure you highlighted all the days that you want the alarm to go off on? This is easily overlooked...

I would double check all your settings. I've never seen an alarm that does NOT work?? It's possible the axim is bad but probably a higher chance of a user not having it set properly ;-)

Another possibility - In Settings, Sounds & Notifications; make sure you have the appropriate boxes checked in the "Volume" tab and the "Play Sound" checked for "Reminders" in the dropdown list on the "Notifications" tab.

I have the related issue. The alarm works some of the time. I did a test and set 4 alarms 5 minutes apart. The first, second and fourth alarm worked, third did not.

my only issue is that ONLY the clock alarms go off UNTIL you acknowledge them.

Outlook alarms go off once.. and pop up the reminder tab for snooze.

Very bad if you need that alarm to remind you, and your not on the handheld all the time... but its near you..

I use my Axim as my alarm clock and have had it not work a few times. I think the problem was I was still on the Alarms screen when I turned my Axim off. If I close the Alarm and Clock screen before I turn off the unit, I don't seem to have any problems. Hope that helps :) .

Hmm

I have the same problem. My alarm works fine but then one day it didn't and I was late for work. When I switched the Axim on the alarm went off- not particularly useful.

I bought Super Alert because I read somewhere that this is a known problem but this morning the same thing happened. Alarm clocks need to go off every single day or you will never be able to trust them.

This is the one and only thing that makes me think "wish I'd stayed with my Psion". Shame.

I'm going to make sure that the clock app isn't active before switching off at night (as suggested above) so let's hope that that fixes the problem.

Try this - Set a new alarm for ten minutes from present time. Leave Axim on for five minutes. Turn off and see if that works. Saw a post elsewhere long ago that talked about the cycle the PPC uses and if you set an alarm and turned it off right away it wouldn't work because the cycle time that recognized alarms hadn't been completed. ( Or something like that!)
