strange empty folders in SD card

I'm using a SD card. SOmetimes when i transfer stuff into a folder created in my SD card ... i suddenly see lots of empty folders created...w/o name...just a dot. There are so many ....

encountered this?

I've seen this on a Sandisk 256SD card, never on my CF card though. Has something to do with the way the system is trying to write files to the card, usually ended up in a write failure. Try formatting the card with Storage Tools or the like, it may fix the file system on the card, if not, you may be looking at a card replacement.

To format, are these the only 2 choices:

(1) storagetools
(2) flash format

Which is better? Tried flash format previously but evaluation version expired.

With all the problems with memory cards ...think such software is a must have for ppc users, dun u think?

I Just deleted the dot dot dot folders
and all was fine...

Not all the cards have problems, thing is you don't see people posting to tell you all their cards are working fine (unless it's a response to a post about troubles). I would have to say that some sort of storage card utility is almost a necessity.
