There's a tiny search party in there holding them.

Replacement Arrived

I received the replacement unit and this unit also had the black shadows on the bottom of the screen and it actually was a little darker so I returned the replacement back to Dell. Thanks for all the input on this.

Thanks for letting us know about the comparison with the second unit. Interesting that the replacement unit was worse than the one you had!

Did you notice if the second unit was "new" or a "refurb?"

Now if I can straighten out

the defective 256 mb SD card

the fact that my Pocket Quicken has to synchronize every time I turn on active synch, even if I have it set to manual.

Are we having fun yet?

What are they searching for? Lost pixels? Missing programs?

I have the same problem with my X 30 High that I received yesterda, but then I discovered another problem with the voice recorder (not very good quality sound) and later on another problem in comparison to which the black shadows didn't seemed a big issue anymore: After I dimmed the screen I couldn't light it back on. Soft reset didn't help, hard reset couldn't be executed so I had to remove the battery to light the screen back on. After reading quite a portion of this forum I learned that the problem with dark shadows at the bottom of the screen is actually not a problem; however, people get replacements for the problematic dim function. To make it spicier - I bought my little toy from e-bay in a Dell-sealed box so I'm trying to find out if the warranty has been transfered to me. Moreover, I am in Canada an the seller was from the U.S. which makes the warranty transfer more challenging. Keep the fingers crossed...

On the X5 the on/off button has two functions. A quick click is on/off, a longer press is bright/dim. I don't have an X30, but if the function is the same, maybe you are holding the button down too long.

The dark spots get worse/better when you adjust the screen brightness.
