Help! With Wireless Card Config - (Solved)
I am usually good with this stuff... But the information provided with my hardware is missing the documentation how to configure this.
My hardware
Axim X5 400MHz + Ambicom WL1100C-CF Wifi card + SMC 7004AWBR Wireless Router.
(I do have a laptop that is hooked up (wireless) to the SMC with no probs. )
----------------
Please will someone point me in the right direction. After I install the software and the CF card ........then what!?
Where do I get the IP addresses etc??
----------------
Thanks to the kind folk(s) that guides me..
Again if there is a web site or thread that explains this .. then please point me towards it.

If your router is set up for DHCP it will automatically assign you an IP address ...
The rest should be the same as your other computer .. Wep settings if you have them ...

I don't have my Ambicom here at this location so I have to give general help. If needed, I could go on the SMC site and look at the manuals to tell you how to set something if needed on the router.
Anyway, you need to know how your laptop gets its IP address. It could be automatically via DHCP. If it is, then things are easier. Also we need to know if you are running WEP for security on the SMC. If you are not, this gets even easier.
Assuming no WEP encryption and DHCP for IP address, make sure the card is inserted into the Axim and go into the Ambicom settings on the Axim. look for SSID or anywhere it shows access points (AP) that are nearby. If your is shown in the list, click on it and hit connect if it has that option. If not, look for SSID and enter the SSID of your SMC. If the SMC is set up for DHCP (and enough IP addresses are available) and you are not using WEP, this should get you going.
Please let me know.

If those are the settings on the Axim, it might be WEP needs to be set.
Are they the settings on the Axim or the AP?
If you look on your laptop, look for:
1) specify IP or is it set to get IP address automatic
2) is WEP enabled? if it is, what is it (128 bit??) and what is the password (don't write the actual password in a post)
3) what is the SSID of your AP?

All the specs I put in previous post were from the Axim.
So I need to get some info from my laptop?
Can I get the proper info from my desktop.. it is hooked up by wire to the SMC. Laptop is not here right now.
Thx

Well, since you have a link 54%, we are most likely only dealing with settings here.
Do you know if you have WEP enabled on the SMC and if so, what strength (like 128 bit) and what the passphrase is?
If you do not know, do you know how to get into the router settings page from your desktop?
Most likely, it looks like just getting WEP set right and your SMC is not set to broadcast SSID (which is good not to for security reasons).

The SMC is not using WEP. It is disabled.
I was able to obtain a few things from another wireless PC upstairs. This is a Laptop running a Linksys Card
WEP- NO
Network SSID - Default
So I changed the Axim to
SSID : Default
WEP: Disabled

WHOOWHOO
We are up.. Thank JmE for your assist
2 things.
1) I had to change the SSID to "default"
2) and this is big one
I needed to take the Ambicom CF out and re-insert to get the setting to take.
OK.. signal and link are both 100% .. since I am 3 feet away from AP.
Now .. how do I "hit the internet"?
