Axim ID and data backup

After installing Everquest, my 400 locked up and the only way I could get it to turn off was to remove the battery. After replacing the battery and turning it back on, it said "loss of power, data loss may have occured, system in sleep mode". When I tried to sync back up to restore my data it acted as if it was a new Axim and wanted to do an "initial sync". When it can to the Axim ID screen it said this ID was already in use even though I renamed/ID with the same ID again. Is there a way to access a backup after such a restart and what's the work around to not having to remove a battery if the screen locks up and a soft reset won't work?

For backups, I prefer to do it to a storage card, but since that doesn't apply here, you will have to do it through Activesync. When you are going through the setup in Activesync, choose to sync as a guest partnership. From there, when you go to backup/restore, it should allow you to restore from the backup you made previous to losing your patnership, including restoring the partnership you had.

Make sure that your Axim is NOT connected to your PC through either cradle or sync-cable. Then, open up ActiveSync and choose File -> Delete Partnership. This will remove your "broken" partnership from your PC and let you establish a fresh partnership with the same device name...
