Alright, here's the answer I got from the RT Support:

"Dear customer,

Thank you for your inquiry.

The new driver is not ready yet.
We have not tested the Archos JBMM with the CFU1U.
Is the Archos JBMM recognized as standard mass storage drive on PC/Mac without special driver? If so, is it recognized as removable drive or normal hard drive?

Actually, we have one customer who has the Tripper drive.
Please see below about the Tripper drive.
http://www.mittoni.com/catalog/produ...oducts_id/1243

He had difficulty to use his drive through the CFU1U,
but eventually he can use it.
Please refer to his comment:
http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/re...essage=4622190

Lately, we found that even if the normal hard drive is formatted as
super floppy drive, it is recognized on PDA.
If the Archos JBMM is normal hard drive and if you can format the drive as super floppy drive, it might be going to work.
But this is just my thought. Since we have not tested the Archos JBMM, I cannot tell if it will work or not.
I hope this answers your questions.

Sincerely,

Tsuki."

I will reply of course telling them how the Archos is identified when connected (USB Mass Storage Removable HDD), and I will wait to see if they have any success at making it work with their CF USB card ;)

From what they've been saying, anything that shows up as a Removable Harddrive doesn't work fully, but anything that comes up as a regular Harddrive does.

Funny, from the thread they mentioned, and from what I got from their comments, I understood that its the exact opposite ;) If it shows up as Removable, then it *might* work.....

:crooked: This is getting confusing... You read it one time it sounds like one thing, read it again, and it sounds like another. The broken English of most of the employees responding isn't helping either.

And after taking a look at the Tripper drive, I really dont see any differences between this product, and the Archos JBMMs (20 and 120). Both are 20GB removable HDDs, use USB2.0/1.1, and dont need any type of driver in order to be automatically recognised by XP or 2K....

If only I lived over there, or if I had any type of assurance from RATOC that they had at least tried this, and made it work somehow......;)

Or have people donate to your paypal account who might want to find out about this?

Nah, I would never stoop to such low levels....;) I make enough money to not care if I buy something that might be awesome, but turns out to not work at all, but on the other hand, I really want this to work, so I prefer to play it by the book, and try to work with Ratoc as much as I can (and is possible ;) )

The other major issue here is the shipping costs. If I lived other there, and didnt have to worry about shipping, then I would say the hell with 140 bucks, if this turns out that it doesnt work. But since I'll have to pay about 50-60 bucks more for shipping, I would be throwing this money down the drain as well.....

And again, I would much rather if the guys at Ratoc got ahold of a Archos JBMM, tested it with their CF card, and just told me(us) that it does or does not work. Much simpler, faster, and more efficient. Dont you think ?

Does this mean it would work with a USB HDD enclosure? Example: IDE HDD in a OnSpec USB Hard Drive Enclosure

I have the feeling that the amperage requirements of this HDD will be even higher, thus incompatible with any portable USB Host adapter.......

USB cable and USB external harddisk

There is another option to connect ppc to USB type external harddisk with USB host cable. I am not sure such USB cable exist for Axim ppc as well. But sure for Toshiba e740/e750/e755

Not only that, but after searching PocketPCPassion, I found about 15 or so threads (dating back to 2002), which more or less point to the fact that this is actually quite feasible (Axim->RATOC USB CF Host->Deje driver->Archos JBMM), probably with some additional power supply.

I've posted there as well the question about this issue. Maybe we'll get lucky and someone there has actually tested this, and knows the results ;)

Check this out.....

I was hunting for the Ratoc card and came across this:
http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/re...essage=4621739

Unfortunately the guy doesn't say much about his axim, what version os, where he got his drivers, how he managed to set it as a removable drive using what device manager (agg). I've been trying to signup for that newsgroup so I can see his email and email him but I think earthlink is sabotaging me right now or something because I'm not getting the verify email they send. If his tripper works my multimedia jukebox 20 should work too.

Yeah, I've seen this post numerous times. However, it says nothing about the JBMM and Axim. We pretty much know by now that the Tripper drive can work with PDAs (since the Tripper has worked with other PDAs with built-in USB), but I have heard nothing about JBMM (or the new AVMs) and -whatever- PDA.....
