Cool Battery Life shorten

I remembered my Axim lasted about 6hours+ on the first charge. Even though during the first charge I did a lot of data transfer and erasing on it.

I have been monitoring with the Uptime software and nowadays, I could hardly hit 5 hours.

Is it normal for the Axim to last for 4 hours with it hit below 20% power mark?

What kind of power saving measures are you taking? Like what backlight setting, processor setting etc, do you use?

Nope, no bluetooth and modem.

Depend on usage, I try to re-charge it when the power remain is about 20%. Sometimes I re-charge it when is still has about 50%.

I am using the Uptime software to monitor the uptime only.

What is the average uptime you guys have?

It takes about 2 hours for the power light to turn from orange to green. Should we leave it to charge up to a total of 4 hours?

There's a thread here that discusses the lithium ion batteries Actually, there are several talking about it but the one I'm thinking of has a link provided by one of the Mods that discusses this technology. The gist is, it's better to keep the battery as fully charged as possible. Letting it regularly drain to 20% before charging will shorten the battery life (Li batteries do not have a 'memory' problem like NiCad batteries).

So, the rule of thumb is: use the battery when you need it, charge it when you can.

I am jsut comparing to my HandPhone which also uses the same type of battery, but we are told to discharge it as much as possible before re-charge. Just wonder, why are there 2 school of taught...

Well, there are different chemistries involved, even within the lithium-ion group but my guess is that either, 1) the phone actually has NiCAD or 2) (more likely), an earlier model had NiCAD and the manual was not changed when they switched.

Here is a link about Li-ion batteries.
