Hardware Issues Seem to Dog Axim Users...
Hello, I just purchased a 400 MHz Axim that is scheduled to be delivered soon. In preparation for using the PDA, I've been reading posts on this forum. It appears like there are tons of hardware problems, especially with additional memory. I'm getting quite nervous and having second thoughts about this.
I used an iPAQ 3835, and never had hardware issues. The Axim seemed like a good deal because of the processor speed and the price.
Is my perception correct that getting the SD and CF memory to work well is a crap shoot? I ordered the $199 CF card from Dell that allows me to use PowerPoint presentations with an LCD projector. That means I will have to use SD memory if I want additonal storage space when using that CF card.
Please provide me with some comments. Thanks.

Don't worry. Most people (think of how many people have bought Axims) have not had problems with the SD slot. And most of those were with Sandisk cards. So if you didn't get a Sandisk SD card, you shouldn't worry, and if you did then try it out, and if you do have problems, send it back and get a different one.
As for the hardware issues, the reason it seems like there are a lot of problems is because this website is so huge. If any other Pocket PC had a website following as big as this, you would be seeing tons of problems with them to. Really, considering how many members there are on this site, there really aren't that many problems.

Got my Ax in March and been happy as a clam at high tide with it.
Much better, IMHO, than any other PDA out there. I think you made a good choice.
Ain't nuthin perfect (tho the axim is close), and the people with problems or questions will share them, because that is part of what this site is for. It may seem like there are lots of hardware issues, when there really aren't.
Have fun with your new toy!

I own a 256MB SD card by Sandisk and haven't had the slightest problem with it.
You shouldn't worry beforehand.

Basing your opinion of the Axim by reading posts here is kind of like going to a doctors office and basing your opinion of the human race on the people there - you would probably think we are a sickly race!
Although this site is not all about troubles, a large portion of the posts do start out like "I'm having a problem with...". Just the nature of a community like this.
BTW: I ordered my Axim the first day they were available. My wife ordered one a couple of months later. We have had no hardware problems at all! I wouldn't even consider another PDA at this point!!

My experience with 8 Ax's at the office & 3 at home is that they along with the SD & CF cards used in them are very reliable.

ive had the axim since april. no hardware problems. i already did the A03 update too. to my mind, most of the problems mentioned in this forums are caused by lack of info or not following instructions (when doing the rom upgrade). dont worry.

Running fine since February
I have to agree with most of the other posters here. You're seeing all the "sick" pda's, not the healthy ones. I've been as happy with this as with any other PDA I've owned. Happier than a couple of them. It's the best deal out there right now in PDA's.

Yeah, I agree - when your looking for help this is a good site - but don't let that worry you - it's a bonus there are lots of other like minded people learning as well
I bought the cf card to run my powerpoint presentations and it works great - I used to use a optican wireless mouse so I could get away from the laptop - now I use the axim and the slimline remote that comes with the cf card. The software is great because you can either view the slides, or look at the notes - while the projector continues to show the slides.
I've now got a sd card and an additional cf card both 256mg - and to date no problems.
So keep being patient and enjoy!!!

I purchased my ax around xmas and have used sandisks cf and sd cards have had no problems with either one, I've also updated to ao3 and still no problems, Don't worry your getting a good product and if you do get one like some of the others I know Dell will make good on it, their customer service has been very good to me when I've called asking a question or two, you may have to wait on the line sometimes for a while but what the heck its their dime not mine.
