Crappy external speaker

My speaker distorts sound at any volume level.

I'm curious if that is typical of the Axim or is mine broken?

This is the case playing back recordings, music in winampaq, wm8, etc.

Earbuds in the headphone jack work great though.

My speaker isn't great, either. And when I connect headphones, it is much better. What can you expect from a very small speaker, I guess.

Hi KnipKnup

Not sure what you mean when you say "distorts" - the quality of my speaker is pretty poor too.

But if you've got a car kit for a portable cd player then you can really give it some.

mine is fine too, and soundvolume, well, what you expect, it is perfectly ok for singing along in a quit livingroom but nearly embarrassing when driving in a car

I often keep my unit in a case on my belt, and can listen to music pretty well even with the flap covering the speaker. It's not loud, but it sounds pretty clear for an alert buzzer playing audio.

The only real distortion I hear is the loss of low frequencies and accentuation of highs, with some hiss always present when playing anything.

HISS cancelation advice

Try using something with 32ohm resistance.

16 ohm headphones or any audio speaker will creat hiss i guest

see my post at

http://www.aximsite.com/boards/showthread.php?t=101075

That was working in my case. Hiss is gone completely. Good luck.
