Axim not turning off; subsequently draining power

I've owned my Axim X5 400 mhz system for only a few weeks now. But I'm having difficulty understanding why it comes on in the middle of the night, and won't go off; it goes into a suspend (darkened screen) mode only, but won't turn itself off after the allotted 1 minute, or whatever time schedule I have it on. Subsequently, it drains the battery. I've read through others' concerns mentioned on this site, and have disabled reminders and notifications. I've even checked my ActiveSync schedule, to make sure it is completely unchecked. And they are. So does anyone have any idea as to why my Axim comes on, and won't go off? I've done the soft reset and the hard reset. But this is a refurbished unit, and I'm wondering if that has anything to do with it. I was really looking forward to using my PDA the way it was intended, including taking advantage of reminders, alarms, and notifications; it just doesn't make sense why the unit won't turn itself off completely.

I don't know if this will help, but it's worth a try.

I've never had this problem, but there is one thing I always do after I have completed a Sync, and that is shut down Activesync manually after pulling the Ax from the cradle. AS stays on, running in the background after disconnecting, and perhaps this is part of the problem.

If Chrissss answer doesn't help, try a soft reset. If that doesn't do it, call Dell and get another unit.

The Ax, and all Microsoft PPCs, turns on at midnight to check the following day's appointments and reminders. It should turn itself off.

I was experiencing the same problems as you describe. I checked all the notifications and reminder settings in Settings->Sound and Notifications and the device still came on.

Now what was more perplexing was that the device did not turn on every night, and that started me looking elsewhere. What became evident was that if I had an uncompleted task, the device turned on. So what finally worked for me was to go to Apps->Tasks->Tools->Options and uncheck the "Set reminders for new items."

Hope this is what is causing your problems.

And of course you do have it set to turn itself off in the power settings, yes?

I've seen this comment on the forum before and never have had the time to reply. First, I think it's inaccurate just because as long as the batteries are installed and have some juice, the Axim is never really 'off.'

Setting that aside, how do the people that know about these issues explain why my Axim, which I turn 'off' but leave plugged in over night, is never on in the morning. Its setting is to stay awake when it is plugged in once it wakes up (and that's what happen when I have an alarm set). In addition, I've been up at midnight (not often any more, I'm getting too old for that ;) ) and I've never seen the Axim screen come on, even though it's sitting in plain view.

Let me be clear, I'm not trying to critize anyone. I'd really just like to know the explanation.

One other thing I'd like to mention which goes directly to the original post. I know a couple months back in a similar thread to this one, one of the moderators mentioned that there is a hardware problem with some Axims which cause this behavior. If the above solutions don't work, call Dell for a replacement.
