Arrow $2 reward for the fix. Can't send email but can receive.

Hello, this is my first post here at the forum but have had my Axim X50v for nearly a year.

$2.00 will be sent by paypal to the first person who sends me the correct fix. (Note you must have a paypal account to receive the award).

Now that I have your attention, :) I finally set up Messenger to access pop3 email yesterday. I need the ability to email photos from the SD card that I use in my phone.

I can receive emails but cannot send them, with or without an attachment. I called the technical support line at my email service. They ensured that I had correctly entered mail.mchsi.com for both incoming and outgoing mail. I have even done a hard reset and reset everything. What more do I need to do?

This is the error message:

"The message(s) could not be sent. Check that you have network coverage and that your account information is correct. Then try sending again".

I have tried to send mail using both a USB connection and by Wifi. - Same message for both attempts.

Thanks.

I know this was happening to me with gmail on my x51v, I had to set up the advanced settings in the mail dialog as per gmail, and then it worked fine

It might be the case that you aren't correctly logging on to the server. I run my own mail server at home, and I have restricted to a limited range of IP addresses & require login & password before sending e-mail is allowed. (I got burned one time by a hacker using my server to send spam). If you aren't sending the correct user name/password, you will be seen as unauthorized and will not be allowed to send. Good luck figuring it out.

Thanks for the quick reply. When I set up the profile I entered the username and password in the blanks where it asked me to. Do I need to enter them somewhere else to make it work. If you know the proceedure I would be interested in reading it.

Where would I even find that? Is it on my device or an email provider thing?

The usual reason for being able to receive, but not send, POP3 emails is because the SMTP server is not in the same domain as the network you are using.

For example, I can send and receive emails via WiFi from home with my email accounts associated with the ISP that my DSL that the WiFi is connected into is through.

However, when out and about, the same email accounts must send through the ISP associated with my GPRS/GSM cell phone since it is the ISP that I am connected to via GPRS via the BT connection between my cell phone and PDA.

It's a way ISPs reduce the effect of spammers, by forcing a logon with a valid account before emails can be sent.

Ding, ding, ding, we have a winner!

With my limited knowlege of email servers (none) it is possible that all of you who replied were correct. However, I must choose the reply that was the most meaningful in the correction of my outgoing mail problem and that person was gary duncan. His suggestion is the one that pointed me in the right direction and I was able to somehow fix it. I have no idea what I did though. I would never have been in that area of the software without his suggestion.

Thanks to all of you! This problem has haunted me for nearly 24 hours.

pm sent :approve:

Edit: I will send the prize in the morning. I need to go to bed.

Well, Gary if you want your prize I have to know where to send it. I will not be on my home computer again until Monday after this afternoon so let me know.

Thanks,

Kenton

Thank you, but no thanks. I didn't reply to gain anything. I think the spirit of the community at Aximsite will be very evident after you've spent enough time here. Everyone is glad to help another.

I'm glad my reply pointed you in the right direction.

Me Too

I also have the same prob with my pop3 account. I can't send from AOL either. MSN is the only one I can send from, but I paid the 19.95 fee for pocket MSN. Msn messenger will sometimes lock up my pocket pc though. From what I've read it's involved with the "send" setting/address but don't know why the "correct" one won't work. I also tried some alternitives since I use a use a cell service and they might require a diff. address. Keep us posted?

Gary Duncan
I do appreciate your help Gary and the help of those who replied. You are all very kind. I hope that I can help some of you in the future. (However you all are probably more computer savy than me).
Thanks again.
