Am I expecting too much?
Just got my Axim 300Mhz. I decided to try a few things out since it's the fastest PDA I've ever owned. I took my 128Mb CF card and put a windows media file (video) on it and couldn't believe how badly it played, I mean dropping 8 out of 10 frames! I installed pocket quake .062, again very choppy. This was installed in the onboard 32Mb. Okay, so am I expecting too much or am I doing something wrong or...? By way of comparison, my old Casio BE-300 with a 166Mhz MIPS processor handled .avi files much, much better.

There are a few things you can do to have better fps/video.
1.Make sure you encoded the video down to size you can't have a 480x600 or something like that playing on an axim it can't haddle that. the axim's screen is like 240x320... and even then you must dropp the frame rate to about 15 to get it to play. 2.Make sure that you have enough program memory.... You can do this by getting to the memory page on the axim. Move the slider to the left for more program memory and right for more storage. Just make sure you dont put it TOO far to etheir side or it will automatically go back to its default spot. 3.Make sure no programs are running in the background. and thats all i can think of now | ||||

The largest problem seems to be having a number of other programs running at the same time. Close all the other programs using the switcher bar or third party app and try it.

Okay so apparently I need to modify the video a bit to better match the screen size. I'm curious as to why my Casio with a 166Mhz MIPS processor and 16Mb of ram was better with video than the X5 with 32Mb of ram and a 300Mhz XPA255 CPU? So I can reasonably expect 15 - 20 fps?
