I can't help you but only today, after no problems with active sync 3.7 my device is not being detectd by either or my USB ports. I have changed nothing about my set up on either desktop or axim. I've tried plugging and unplugging, restarting the PC. Spooky?

here we go again!:p
1. remove the driver from your pc, restart (leave the axim out of the usb!!!)
2. uninstall active synch
3. restart again
4. install active synch 3.5, upgrade to 3.7
5. a the first screen you see, put the usb in and put the ax in his cradle, let it sit for a minute or so, so your pc can detect it.
6. now it schould recognize your ax
hope this helps,
Wh

Thanks for taking the time to reply but this is so time consuming! Why might this problem have occurred in the first place. It is important to know this because otherwise the conditions that have caused the problem may recurr. I couldn't funtion with this device if this is necessary on a regular basis as I need the axim to save time not consume it!

well, did you install/removed something from your ax/desktop??
this could have caused the problem.
Otherwise you will have to tell me some more of your ax/desktop history to help me to find your prob.

No, I didn't do anything at all. Yesterday evening it synched OK tonight it would not sync at all. I have checked with XP troubleshooter and the USB connections are recognising the presence of the dell but active sync is not responding at all. I have tried both ports and the usual connection wiggling manoeuvre (not too vigorous though!)

I just 'fished' around on other relevant threads and one suggested a soft reset. Tried it and have just synched successfully. I'd still like ideas about why this may have happened if you think of anything Wannahave :)

OH i though you tried a soft reset so I didn't tell you to do it. i'm sorry.
For the future, always try a soft reset or reset your computer first!
Will post a reply if I know more,

weird, I have tried the steps you set forth many times on two different fairly new computers running xp with usb ports working on other things.... any chance that it could be the cable, I am just going through the cable, no cradle, i dont know if that makes a difference, i don't think i am missing anything... hm... any ideas?
