I'm using the Dell Axim X5 when I first turned it on, it was in Italian. I bought the Axim in an auction, and I would like to know if it is possible to change the language to English. If so, can some one provide a detailed explanation how to go about doing this? I'm sorry, and Thanks to who ever helps me... :)
If you want the most recent Windows Mobile 2003 OS update for the X5 (not free, if you want a legal copy), do a search here in Aximsite's Classifieds forum or on eBay (unfortunately, Dell no longer offers it for sale) for the original Dell CD version of "Microsoft Pocket PC 2003 Premium Edition".
Note that there are a LOT of illegal WM2003 upgrades on eBay. A legitimate seller should be willing to show or send you a digital photo of their CD offering, which is purple in color.
Good luck! :approve:
Best regards,

I think I forgot to mention. When I bought the PDA, it didn't come with a Computer connection port thingy...

gigabyte,
That "thingy" is called a sync cable or sync cradle.
You'll need one or the other to take full advantage of the features of your Axim. If you're serious at all about using your X5, buy one/both on eBay ($10 - $20 + S/H)....
However, you can install/upgrade your operating system without either by using the "CF bootloader" method - just search for it in the X5 forums here on Aximsite. However, even the "CF bootloader" method will require that you have a memory card reader to transfer the install/upgrade files from your desktop/laptop PC to the Compact Flash card.
Good luck! :approve: Let us know if you need more help....

Hey, Am I supposed to transfer the file that I downloaded from the link that you gave me into my Axim X5 and then open? or am I supposed to open it in the desktop while the PDA is connected?
You have to run that ROM update file from your PC after you establish an ActiveSync connection to your X5.
Good luck! :approve:

DAMN< I can't find the Sync Cable in Ebay Singapore. Can someone explain in detail to me the CF bootloader method? *crosses fingers and hopes that the CF bootloader method works for SD cards and that people are willing to help and that no one minds a n00b.*

I got the sync cable, and I tried to run the program, but it cant run. After the initial loading screen that says something about backing up your files, theres a screen which says the update only works for certain Dell models., and then VERY QUICKLY tat screen dissapears and the program seems to exit.... ARGH! this SO frustrating... :(

For the details on doing that, check out my Post #2 at the following URL:
I think my Dell Axim X5 is the non advanced version... Shit, what do I do? Is there anyway for me to upgrade the Axim X5 to the 400 MHz version???
*crosses fingers like hell*
Nope. The X5 version you have is fixed by the hardware chips installed on the motherboard.
If you want to see for sure which X5 version you have, tap on Start -> Settings -> System -> System Information. Sorry, don't know what the equivalents are in Italian. If the Processor Speed is listed as 300 MHz, then you have the X5 Basic. If it is listed as 400 MHz, then you have the X5 Advanced.
There's no way you can upgrade from a Basic to an Advanced, unless you buy different hardware.
You can upgrade either X5 hardware version to WM2003 (not free) or to PPC2002 (free from the Dell web site I listed in an earlier post), using either the "CF bootloader" method (probably the best way in your case) or using the WM2003 upgrade CD.
