Yikes!! Screen is not responding from time to time!!!
Hi Guys,
I read on a few posts from several people who have had problems with the screen responding to their taps.
Now, since a few days I experience the same problem. Whenever or whatever I tap, the pda won't respond, then if I do one or more soft resets, it is ok again but after a few hours my axim won't respond to any screen tap.
When I do another 1 or 2 soft resets, sometimes it is solved after 1, sometimes it takes 3 soft resets, it back ok.
Should I start lobbying for a replacement? I don't think the screen is really broke because soft reset seems to solve the problem for a while.
Any comments???

I have the same problem. Call and get a replacement. Dell shouldn't have a problem with sending out a new unit. If the screen protector idea simonk suggested isn't the culprit - the next time the screen gets unresponsive squeeze the Axim while it's in your palm and test the screen while still squeezing. Chances are it will work. Not sure why this happens and why squeezing seems to help. I do know that it's a problem and that it should be replaced. Good luck.

I don't have any screen protector so this should not be the problem...

I have had two axims that have done the same thing. The first one I received a few months ago you had to squeeze really hard and it would work for a few minutes then you would have to squeeze it again. I just received an Axim for my wife and it has a similar problem only it will work for a couple of days and then freeze up and you would have to squeeze it to get it to work again. I got a replacement for the first and I am in the process of calling to get a replacement for my wifes. I would go ahead and get it replaced, its only going to get worse.

Thanks for the replies,
glad to hear (although sorry for you guys) i am not the only one with this problem so it should be recognized by Dell.
I tried the squeezing trick and that helped, so that means I have the exact same problem.
When squeezing the two rubber bands with my hand it will work and when not squeezing it won't
I'll call Dell tomorrow to hear about a replacement, hope they won't give me a hard time and I hope I'll get my new one soon...
(the first one after ordering I got within a week)

I did not bring my documents to work today which came with my Axim: my customer number, my warranty, ... so I guess it's no use calling them without this info...they will surely ask for this before sending me a replacement (if they will).
Just hope they don't send me a refurfished one, I paid the full price for a new device, if it lacks without it being my fault, I don't believe they should give me a refurbished, I also have the most recent C step procesoor, hope if they ever send me a new device, it won't be a downgrade
Just one question, will they send me a new one and can I keep my old Axim until I receive that, and then send the old to them (that seems to be the procedure as I read in these posts(. How long will it take to receive the new one
PS. My former pda was a Casio and it send it to them via my reseller and it took more than 6 months until I had a new device, 6 months without a pda!!!!! Don't want to go down that road EVER again!!!

Just make sure you check your processor version and make sure you are getting the same one back! I had the same issue and got downgraded to the PXA250 when mine was replaced... the PXA255 is now in the mail. Good luck!

Oh, and they send the replacement, you put your old one in the box... then you send it. The postage is paid by Dell and it only takes about 2-3 business days to get the replacement.

I believe all you need is the service tag number, which is on a sticker underneath the battery.

Ok thanx a lot for the quick feedback and useful info...
Should I consider a hard reset or won't this help, maybe just for a short period and afterwards the same sh***
It's not a software problem, I already tried uninstalling some of the programs I recently installed but the problem remains the same, and when I squeeze lightly the Ax the screen will respond, it seems some kind of contact problem...

Count me in for someone having a screen problem. I did notice that if I tapped in the very upper right of the screen, it would bring up the input options menu as if I'd tapped in the lower right.... I did a hard reset and now it won't go past the "Align Screen" screen at all. Bleh.
I emailed Dell support and hopefully they'll be sending me a new one soon....

I have the same problem. Screen does not respond, wherever I click, all of a sudden it will, for a short period of time, and then, not anymore. When I hold the Ax firmly in my hand, squeezing lightly on the rubber bands, it will react without problems, until I release the pressure. Seems like a contact problem between the TFT and the device itself.
I also have the same problem that when I click on the upper right corner, I get the pop-up with the input choices : keyboard, letter recognizer, ... These seem to be general problems with our Axes as I read several posts on this topic.
I contacted Dell this afternoon, they asked me for my service tag, checked my phone number and address, I explained the problem about the screen and that I had read several posts on forums on this matter.
The rep asked me if I would be home monday and he would have a new Ax delivered, woooooooooow what a service...that's calling on friday afternoon, and the first day after the weekend I should receive a "new" one...can't say anything - about that service.
Just hope I don't get a refurbished one or an inferior processor, I had the PXA250 C step or an Ax with another problem. Read on this forum some of you guys already had 5 replacements...!!!
Keep my fingers crossed and we'll see monday!!!!
