Statement by a SanDisk employee regarding incompatibility

Found this on the aximusers forum.

Quite an interesting read, in my opinion.

He does make some good points . Of course, I am not anti-SanDisk.

It is a strange problem, as some SanDisk cards work fine out of the box, and others don't.
One of the issues is that the formatting feature of the Axim is not accessable directly, requiring after-market software to accomplish this simple task. Formatting with the PC may not always work.

My first SanDisk 256 SD card has worked perfectly for six months now, but the second one I got would not write or read files properly until I did a format with a third party file explorer on the Axim.
During this process, the Ax never said the card needed format.

It's funny hearing advice from users to try formatting a card in a digital camera if one is available ... instead of using the pocket pc.
Why is this function missing from the ppc?

When I talked to a rep he said that there might be bad "batches" out there causing problems.

I have used SanDisk cards for years & have never had a problem with them even in the Axim. (Currently use 2 SD & 4 CF SanDisk cards with my Ax).

One thing that did happen once was that a SanDisk CF card had been jarred loose while in my Ax & had to be reseated.

Hopefully, a firmware upgrade will solve everyone else's problems with these cards.
