Worried Backup Battery 30%!!??

I've had my Axim for about a week now. Today When I got home I put my Axim in the cradle and it warned me that the backup battery is at 30% and should be replaced. I checked it a couple hours later and it was 100%. Is this normal? I wouldn't think that the backup battery would be re-chargable. Of course I'm a newbie and still know nothing... Anyone else ever had this problem?

The back up batteries are not rechargable. Sometime something, such as a change in temperature, can cause the reading to jump around.

I suggest you remove the backup battery and gently clean the contacts with a clean eraser. (The center contat is easy. The side contact is a little harder). You might also want to clean the battery. Remove any eraser gum, replace the battery, and see if it happens again. This is too much of a change to be explained by normal temperature variation. So dirty contacts or some oil/film on the battery is my guess.

You can also try buying a new backup battery from Rad Shack for < $3.
The world may not be perfect yet, but the Axim is (almost).

Try charging your axim and doing a soft-reset...There is a glitch with the Axim that does that. Sometimes mine goes down too, but after a while it goes back up.

What firmware are you running? If its the standard A00 then the battery monitoring is rubbish id suggest upgrading to A03 asap if it bothers you that much.
