I am a palm convert and have had my Axim for three weeks now, but on at least 4 occasions I could not start contacts from the function button, programs or home untill I did a soft reset. This also happen once for the Home button. I hit the button 5 times with no results turned it off and then turned it on to see 5 "homes" open in the task switcher. Any ideas on what this probelms is. It happens rarely, but still happens.

Is it possible some app with button mapping ability is running in the background?
My situation is that I re-mapped the buttons for Media Player, so if it's running, either in front or in back, the buttons do what WMP wants.
This thing with programs not really shutting down when you "close" them can make problems. Use Switcher to really close them, and see if the problem persists.
If that's not it, you might want to do a hard reset and start over fresh.

Hi Mike,
I thought there was a setting in medial player to only remap the buttons when Media Player in in front of everything, so that the buttons do what they usually do when you have media player minimized.
Maybe that was for another audio player, maybe search the forum for 'button re-mapping media player'
Just a suggestion

I will check the mapping of the buttons, thanks for the suggestion. But I do know that when this happens I cannot open contacts/home through the menus either. It acts like it is not there.

hey, sometimes games will remap your buttons as well (tetris in my experience) and you wil need to soft reset to clear this out.

Also, remember that PocketPC is a Microsoft product, so soft-resetting several times a day is about normal... :P

The "Home" button mysteriously stops functioning for me as well and, you guessed it, a soft reset fixes it. I'm finding that one or two soft resets a day is becoming the norm with the pocketpc OS.

This is a known issue...
If you have a contact Open (not the list, but an actual contact) and you close it with the switcher (or I suppose one of those programs that makes a tap in the top-right actually close the app), it will do this... Just make sure you click OK.. (Not sure about what would happen with one of those programs that forcibly closes apps..????) and then you can use switcher to close Contacts...
Haven't heard whether or not this is an Axim or PocketPC2002 bug... Oh sorry.. Undocumented Feature...

Thanks for the info and letting me know that I am not imagining things. It hasn't happened in a long while so I don't know if I stopped triggering it or changing to a different task switcher (WISbar) helped but I hav not had the problem in a couple of weeks.

Same thing here, I soft reset every few days and would like to know if it's ok to do this many resets...I think I will poke through the rubber eventually. I called Dell and they said to upgrade ActiveSync to 3.6 to fix problem, has this helped anyone here with this issue?
Is it a good idea to upgrade regardless of this issue?

New Activesync doesn't affect the programs on the Axim... The Dell rep was er... mistaken...
From what I've heard, almost all the Activesync 3.6 updates relate to PocketPC2002 Phone edition, basically making Activesync phone frinedly...
Still running 3.5 here with no problems, but if 3.6 doesn't break anything, (Sounds like it shouldn't), I don't see a problem with it...
