Finding memory leaks

Recently I've been keeping my AXIM in its cradle for long periods of time, often times on. Recently I noticed after I wake up that the program memory has jumped from 17MB to 1MB! I reset the device and everything is fine but I'm curious as to where this memory leak could be... I think my biggest complaint about the PPC platform so far is the way it deals with memory and its not that good.

So what can I use to track down a memory leak?

There is a freeware app calls "Where Is My RAM?". That might help you troubleshoot.

Also, get ClearTemp. Also a freeware. I don't have the link but do a search for "ClearTemp" you would have it.

How would I go about testing to see if there is a memory leak?

a memory leak is where a program gradually uses more and more memory, mostly because of some badly written code that does not dispose of variables when new oens are made, etc...

I think it's also a function of the OS too often.

As an example, soft reset your PC and take a look at in use program memory. Open and close Contacts and then take another look. You should find that there is less memory now than there was before.

In theory if you open and close Contacts often enough you could probably crash your Axim.

There are some instances where this happens by design, but sometimes it's just lousy programming or OS architecture. (Not saying I could do better).
