How to take battery out without losing data.
yesterday,
i got curious and took out the battery on the axim by using the stylus to move that sliding thing to unlock the battery. When i put the battery back on, i found out that, the axim wont load, and was stuck on the blue dell logo picture. So i did a soft reset then it said "to erase all data hit this button and to cancel hit this button", i hit cancel of course then it was still stuck on the blue dell picture. So i took out the battery and then put it back in, and found out that ive loss all my data, and the axim did a hard reset. But good thing i did a backup one hour before this happened. So, in summary, how would you take the battery out for cleaning purposes or to change it without having all data loss. Thanks

You should be able to take out a battery (either main or backup), so long as the other battery is sufficiently charged.
Maybe one of your batteries was run down?

You could also check out this thread different problem, but the suggested remedy may avoid the loss of data if it happens again.
Curiosity is a dangerous thing sometimes....but I swap my batteries over from time to time without probelms (to date)

Have seen this problem posted before and, the same week I saw it, it happened to me.
Basically, I believe the problem may be that the backup battery contacts are not fool-proof. Some folks recommend that they need to be cleaned (with a pencil eraser) from time to time. Anyway, I have three main batteries that I need to switch out not-infrequently, when I'm away from home. On one switch, I lost all my data. Determined that my backup battery wasn't making good contact (BTW, I had dropped my Axim a few days before). Of course, the safest thing to do is to plug the Axim to an AC charger when changing the main battery -- but, of course, this is often not feasible (why would you be needing to switch out batteries if you had a power-source and recharger available?). The next best thing is to (as you did) make a backup before removing a battery. Have changed out batteries dozens of times with no problems; but one bad experience has made me fairly cautious.

Although you shouldn't have to do this, in reality the only safe, sure way I know is to have the Axim plugged in to it's AC adapter when removing the battery.
Never be too far from your AC adapter or even your cigarette lighter charger in the car (if you have one).
