Newbie Help: WM2005, GPS, and Drivers
Hi,
Many thanks in advance to anyone who can help me out. Here's my issue.
I got a used Dell Axim X5 in a tech-toy trade. It was given to me with Windows Mobile 2005 on it. My primary goal is to use it as an in-car mounted GPS solution. I even went so far as to purchase a copy of TomTom Mobile (not cheap!) and bought the maps for my state.
As a gift, I also received the GlobalSat BC-337, a GPS antenna CF card. I'm having some major problems getting the Axim to even see it. This isn't a GlobalSat issue (or so they tell me), since WM2005 isn't showing the card as occupying a COM port. The CF card has an LED that is supposed to blink when it has a fixed location, and it blinks regularly, which I assume means that the CF card is successfully communicating with GPS satellites.
My first question is this: How do I get WM2005 to "see" the CF card, or use it as a COM port? I have installed the only included program on the drivers, and because it doesn't see the CF card, it won't work. The GlobalSat support/manuals all begin by stating "locate the COM port that shows your CF card"...and nothing like that appears for me. I have tried attaching the X5 to the PC, then looking in device manager under Ports, and don't see the X5's CF card listed. Is there a separate Device Manager for WM2005 where drivers can be manually installed?
Also, I have read reports of this card working with Axim X5s that are running Windows Mobile 2003; what is the best way to downgrade to this OS, if I wanted to go that route?
I'm aware of a patch that GlobalSat has published for the Dell Axim X51, and even tried installing it. This didn't change anything.
Lastly, are there any type of 3rd party applications that could repair driver settings or allow me to make any other necessary tweaks?
Thanks in advance for your help!
