ActiveSync Problems
I am at my witts end with this machine already and I only recieved it yesterday. After spending the evening with a Dell Tech (who, I might add had a very strong accent which made it extremely hard to understand) I finally got the ActiveSync program loaded onto my computer. Now my problem seems to be staying sync'd. I have been through the Axim and turned off every (that I could find) sleep mode oprion of ANY kind but still after a minute or so the Axim just dissconnects itself from my computer. This make downloading programs impossible. I was trying to load Pharos Pocke PC Navigator but everytime I try, the Axim dissconnects itself before the program can scan the thing and download the program. How do I fix this ActiveSync disconnection problem. Also I would like to know how to name a new partnership. I am listed as a guest right now and I cannot find anything about the proceedure in the manual (gee, not suprising!). I see by all the forums here I am not the only one with problems. I only hope the problems can get fixed before I lose all patients and send this thing back and get my money back. There is no reason this has to be so difficult (my Powerbook is a testament to that fact). Thanks for the help.

Activesync Hangs after upgrade of ROM
Hi there,
I was reading through your message and decide to post some findings which I have after the ROM upgrade.
I uses my Axim to sync with my HP laptop via infrared. What is interesting about the syncing is that though I can sync successfully, but everytime i press the stop button on Axim activesync after every sync, it will kinda of 'freeze' up. I also notice that the infrared icon on my system tray does not go away. Before the upgrade, whenever I stop my activesync, the infrared icon will show it is no longer syncing but after the upgrade it is no longer doing so.sad:
It seems that I have to do a soft reset on my PDA to get rid of the 'freeze' state everytime i finished my syncing. I have uncheck what you have recommended but the results are still the same... Just wondering whether you know of any remedy or known problem like mine somewhere.
My Activesysnc is 3.7 and my ROM is A03.
Cheers

I had the same disconnecting problem with my axim. It would happen when syncing avantgo. Avantgo would hang and the axim would disconnect. I tried active sync 3.5, 3.6, and 3.7, and neither worked. I finally gave up and no longer use avantgo. I cannot understand microsoft developing a new operating system and not coming up with a decent sync software. I'll say it, after 6 pda's, 3 palmos and 3ppc's, for me, palm has the best syncing software.

Totally agree
I totally agree with you but I am surprise that you took so many PDAs to find out that Palm has the best syncing software....;)
Anyway, my problem was different from yours. It does not hang halfway... It is only when I decided to disconnect from the activesync then it will hang and I will need to do a soft reset before it will work again.
Anyhow, I have decided to live with this 'feature' of mine and hopefully either migrate to PPC2003 or install the newer version of activesync when it comes out.
Cheers

HI...
It's true...
I've exactly the same problem.
Everytime I do a sync with activesync, when it's finished the activesync software (pda one's) hangs... Then I can not acces the switcher bar, for example, neither do another new sync.
It will no work until I do a KILL throug memory icon, or a soft reset.
It's exactly the same doing sync through USB, Infrared or wireless. And the same with ActiveSync 3.6, 3.7 and 3.7.1.
Another Stupid-bug from stupid-stupid-stupid Microsoft way of doing things.

And the same with rom A00 and rom A03...
And by the way... why we must pay for A05 with new full-of-not-tested bugs Pocket PC Windows 2003 ?

What do you mean "hang?" Activesync does not shut down when it is done, it stays running. It does no harm, other than taking up a bit of program memory, so I just leave it running. It's designed to do that so that when you connect you don't have to wait for A/S to start up to start the sync. It's M$ way of making it more responsive to you.

Yes, to the extent that one can grep "running" as: arbitrarily cutting off "large" files (how large? which files? who's asking?), disconnecting at random intervals (which intervals? how long do you have?), periodically unilaterally deciding to not sync tasks, or notes, or whatever the "screw you du jour" is (let's all play what's going to be the problem today?), copying files at the same speed that dutch elm disease moves down your street (thanks, M$, for making us all buy card readers), deciding after many hundreds of syncs that, in fact, you are not who you've always been but a "guest" after all, and any of the other dozens of documented dysfunctions, malfunctions, and plain stupidity of ActiveSync. With programs "running" like this, who wouldn't wish it would shut down every once in a while?
My Christmas wish list includes security in Iraq, peace in the Holy Land, my two front teeth, and someone, somewhere, who'll make and sell ppc syncing software that works, where you don't have to put "works" in quotes. I've got a paypal account and could send the cash tonight.

Nice words, pswets.
And still so many things to say.... how many times did you have to delete a lot of duplicated contacts after a new 'with supposed less bugs' version of ActiveSync or Axim Rom ?
I had to delete duplicated contacts more than 6 times... and carefully because not all the contacts were duplicated, and when they were duplicated there was a good copy and a bad copy (with wrong categories assigned).
Microsoft bug problems (I had duplication on Compaq Ipaq too)

Jake, I hate to disagree, but - - - -.
I use I Hate Spam with Outlook. Everything works fine, unless I forget and shutdown Outlook or even worse, turn off the computer with AS loaded. I have had to boot in safe mode and I have had to use GoBack to boot under these conditions. All of this can be avoided if I simply use Shutdown ActiveSync and shutdown AS when I don't need it. Don't know why IHS and AS don't get along well, but I have the solution. Also, there apparently is a good reason for Shutdown ActiveSync as it was recommended in a thread on this site to resolve issues caused by AS when it is loaded.

Yeah, don't get me started. Duplicate calendar entries: sometimes due to user error (different time zone or daylight savings time entries on Axim and pc), but not always (unless one defines "user error" as "using activesync.") And God forbid that you actually try to use a different, useful, program like I hate spam while you try to use activesync. Or have a firewall. Or have antivirus software running. (I know, some AV software works, some of the time, with AS. And we're all both happy and amazed and relieved by this.) How pathetic have I become to accept garbage like this as the standard? I used to think it was awful that we all agreed to pay to be beta testers for Windows' bug-filled releases; now we're not even beta testers, as no self-respecting (and darn few self-loathing!) coder would even call activesync "beta."
Standing by with paypal at the ready for the first product that can reliably sync my Axim, but not holding my breath ....
