If a file or sector is corrupted in the built-in storage by default the OS wants to reformat this area of the ROM. This reformat action has been disable by Dell but not replace by any other means yet. Dell is aware of this issue and is working on to solve it.

built-in storage missing

I turned on Favorite's sync. Had some fun getting it going; then went looking for a file.
Strange LOTS of stuff missing; oh where's built in storage ? ?
If I do a hard reset do I get my built in storage back ?
Or do I have to do a ROM reset/upgrade ?

Axim X5 400
ROM A05
Wm3

HELP ?
Or do i have to argue with Dell ?

If I do a backup of my "broken" system will it restore properly when problem fixed ? or will it (re)break the axim

Pete

I read on the sprite backup forum that if you do a hard reset but then cancel it your mem will return.

Yes, that trick is supposed to work. You'll save your files, but the date/time gets set back to the default, so you'll have to set the clock.

I've had to do this a few times and have never seen the clock being reset...

It's been reset every time I've done it. Interesting....

Sorry, I have to keep track of which hardware forum I'm in... the x30 series clock isn't affected, obviously the x5 is.

Unfortunately the hard rest/cancel didn't work - mainly 'cos I read a line at a time; so I hit the wrong button (what absolute moron would NOT seperate the instruction line properly....)
So spoke to dell on Wednesday 20/10/04 & have my replacement in my hands....

When this happened to me, restoring a Sprite Backup restored my BIS . . . Try restoring your most recent backup, ActiveSync, Dell backup util, etc.

Rayjen try the hard reset trick detailed in #19 above. CAUTION read the prompts VERY carefully - read my last post! When I explained the problem to Dell UK they just shipped me a new machine....
Good luck !
