If you information is in the built-in data section, then that data will stilll be there after a hard reset. I suggest you do a hard reset then, but remember, and other data will be lost as the device returns to its "factory default" state.

I had this exact thing happen, And all data was lost on the built in storage. Infact the built in storage was lost!

No reference to it anywhere. Dell Tech said is sounded like the OS was corrupt. So they are sending me another one.

This sort of thing had been reported to happen on the other two ppc that have "built-in" storage, the ipaq and the hp 56x series. I personally never had it happen, but the one common item that most have found with it is that if people were actively using the storage area to add and remove applications that the process sometimes triggered the loss of the storage area.

In any event, in all reported cases, a hard reset did not fix the problem. The data was lost and the unit had to be sent back to the manufacturer to be replaced.

I would have to surmize that since this is now also occuring with the Dell that there mus be some problem that hasn't been found yet in the OS that is causing this. I has to be more than just a coincedence that it is happening all all of the devices that offer additional storage.

The only thing that I use by built in storage for is backing up my data. I don't put any applications into my area, for fear of losing it. I also copy off my backups from the built in area every so often just in case.

Punter, if the OS is corrupted and it is not a hardware issue. Then it should be solved with software (like reinstalling the ROM firmware).Although actual Rom upgrades dont let reinstallation.
Maybe I should wait for a A04 ROM upgrade or the free upgrade to MS Mobile 2003.

I bought mine in USA a month ago but I live in Spain...so the garantee doesnt cover me here, I think.

VanHlebar: I didnt use the Builtin Storage that much!!
I just had my Axim for 3 weeks!!

It's probably not the OS or the hardware. Writing to Flash is not a guaranteed event. Memory cards can just be reformatted, so nobody thinks about it too much, but the ROM can't be reformatted.

I store large aps that I do not chage frequently (like dictionary, adobe viewer,...) I make sure no appointments are coming do, the battery is fully charged -plus- AC charger plugged in. Soft reset to kill all background programs. Similar precautions for the PC. Leave everything alone during the write. Try not to trip over the USB synch cable.

This just a piece of advice. I always have the fear of losing stuff in my computer and now this Axim, so I make a back-up of my Axim and then make a back up of all my cards, that way I have it in case the bad thing happens.

SOLVED: Built-in storage is back!!

As I always said it was a software issue not a hardware one.
But I couldnt reinstall the ROM because the installation software doesn't allow it.
So I got my free upgrade to Windows Mobile 2003 and installed.
Wow!! The Built-in Storage came back to life.
What's more, I previously saved the Windows Mobile 2002 ROM
and then restored it and the built-in storage is still there!!
Welcome back!!
:)

PS: Dell should let customers reinstall any ROM. Not just upgrade!!
PS: I was afraid to try alejandroborja's method.

I am having the same issues and Dell just told me there is nothing I can do about it . . .how did you reinstall Mobile 2002? 'Cause I have the upgrade disk and if I could go backwards, then I might be able to go forwards.

Hard Reset - 1st timer - HELP!!

I performed a hard reset and tried to go about re- installing the previous settings and data. I thought by putting the device into the cradle this would allow me to import all my info back across from Outlook.

The first thing is asks is about setting up a partnership, to cut to the chase it detects the device name is already in use.

How do i go about synchronizing like I used to always do???

Rename the Axim, delete the partnership, and possibly other fixes.

Deleted partnership, re-booted desktop and soft reset on X5. Still comes up with device name already in use.

Should I try un-installing Activesync?
