Can't Delete Files off SD!?

I went to transfer some files to my SD card and deleted a bunch of mp3's and 2 backup files. Then i go to copy over the new mp3's and it won't let me!

So i restart and when i check...the files have come back. Now no matter how i try to delete, the files will come back after a reset. I check to make sure the switch on the SD card is set properly...anyone know why this might be happening? :crooked:

there is only hundreds of threads about this issue on the dell forums and this site's forums, a little searching would do you good.

What make is your SD card and what is the code stamped on the back

<code here>
<country here>

here is an example of what it should be like

AR02034
CHINA

OR

nn9999n999
JAPAN

Well, i saw "hundreds of threds" on SD formatting problems that seemed only applicable to SanDisc cards. I tried searching for "can't delete" and didn't come up with something...maybe you can help me out and point is to a solution. My card is from I-O Data Devices, Inc.

The only numbers on the back is the serial:

Made in Japan
Serial No. BP3AA002329

-_-

This has nothing to do with the formatting problem...don't be so quick to flame.

I just did a hard reset and downloaded storage tools to try and format the card...even after formatting, the files come back and it tires to repair the card...but even after repair completes, there is still something wrong.

you are correct, my applogies, I shouldn't have flamed

Generally the japan made cards are free of issues, and sandisk cards are one of the over 10 brands with issues just so you know, anyways what I can suggest is using storagetools to format in FAT16 or FAT, not FAT32

If that doesn't help, contact I-O Data Devices and see if they have any tips or just simply return the card.

Try using a USB reader/writer if you are currently using an Axim to format, or if you are using a USB reader/writer, try a different one.

:sigh: I tried formatting using storagetools and after a reset...the files come back, it's like this card is stuck. It is possible to delete and write new data to it, but once you restart...everything comes back.

I don't have any money right now to buy a reader so it looks like i'm SOL...

A few questions--
1. How much memory is left on the card?
2. What size is the card?
3. Do you get this problem if you take the card out and then perform a soft reset?
4. Are you able to use new files added to the card after other files have been deleted to make room? (And then if you perform a soft reset the old files come back?? the new ones are just gone?)

56 of 128MB

128MB

Yep

4. Are you able to use new files added to the card after other files have been deleted to make room?
Yes, I can add files such as mp3's from my desktop then play them.

(And then if you perform a soft reset the old files come back?? the new ones are just gone?)
Yes, the new ones I added disappear and the old ones I deleted come back :rolling:
